    Building a New Computer

So, if anyone read my first thread I made about updating my computer, ignore it, I've decide to sell it and wait a little and build my own once I get a little more dough. Onto the topic of the thread though, for building the computer, would these components work?
    GPU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...094&CatId=7005
Fans: Come with case, One 120mm, One 140mm, & Two 230mm
    Ram: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...0&Sku=C13-5702
    Hard Drive: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...389&CatId=2459
Processor: Not out yet, but the AMD Bulldozer
    Mobo: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...715&CatId=5541
    Case: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...023&CatId=1510
    PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...246&CatId=2535
    Operating System: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=5213932
Trying to get the majority of items from Tigerdirect, so if its possible to a link to the item from that site would be wonderful.
    Thanks

To use Bulldozer, you need to have an AM3+ board, but even then it won't take advantage of the new technology. I'd wait to put your list together until Bulldozer is released and thoroughly tested.
Also, crappy power supply, and way overkill. You need ~500-~650 watts maximum for any single GPU setup.

Getting a higher wattage one so that later on I can use SLI guess I should have mentioned that though sorry

    Crossfire*

SLI isn't natively supported by motherboards AFAIK, it may just be AMD motherboards though

    AMD = Crossfire
    nVidia = SLI

The PSU is overkill, you'll need like, half that for any GPU.

By the by, do we know a price range yet for the Bulldozers?

Also, you've linked the RAM as the motherboard, unless you are talking about that little offer that's on the page. 4gb of 1600MHz is enough, might want to consider 8GB, depends on how much multitasking you do.

i would also look for different prices on newegg.com i just recently built by first computer and had i went with tiger direct would have ended up spending about a 100 bucks more. not sayin tiger direct is bad, but just look around is all. i know newegg ended up giving me like a 75 buck discount cause some of the things i bought were "bundle combos"

also if youre lookin for some additional feedback try asking some folks over at tomshardware.com very friendly people with lots of input. hope this helps!

edit : the biggest thing i was told by alot of people was to make sure your ram is compatible with your mobo. depending on what ram you get, most of them have websites you can go to and search the list of ram modules and find a list of supported mobos. i see youre lookin at 8 gigs, thats actually a lot of ram and unless you plan on doing a bunch of multi tasking or running multiple games at once is probably a bit of over kill. if youre mainly playing WoW 4 is more than enough and it saves you some extra money. i went with 4 on my first build but made sure i had extra banks in case i want more in the future. sorry for the long edit

On the new 990 FX SLI is enabled or atleast, nVidia decided to allow SLI on AMD motherboards

And as said before, get another PSU its overkill and i never heard of kingwin....
And if you are going for bulldozer, wait till the 990 FX boards are out.

Like a lot of the 890FX boards being currently sold, that particular board already comes equipped and ready for Bulldozer(Zambezi) processors. Since the AM3+ sockets are backward compatible with AM3, Most of the major board manufacturers are already equipping some of their AM3 product lines with the upgraded AM3+ socket, and said to only require a BIOS update when BD comes available. Still, I agree that you should wait for a 9xx chipset boards to be released along side Zambezi.

I agree that power supply is overkill for your setup. That PSU is actually a Super Flower unit though, which isn't crappy at all. It's rather decent actually, and the price is outstanding for a 1000watt unit. SF makes some really solid PSU products. They just aren't as well known in the US and Europe atm, since most of their products are sold under OEM. The Kingwin LZP-550, the first 80+ Platinum unit, is actually one of their creations, and is arguably the best in its class. They also make some fairly nice cases. The Azza Solano, Helious, and Hurrican cases are SF units.

Sorry for the mistakes on the computer stuff, just starting to get into the scene on building your own. So, according to Dizey I'm good for the Mobo or do I still need an AM3+ socket? And what is "a 9xx chipset boards to be released along side Zambezi"? Would http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...822&CatId=2534 be a better choice for a PSU or is it still overkill?

    ---------- Post added 2011-05-25 at 02:13 AM ----------

On my own accord I decided that since the other was only 50 Watts lower it was still a wee bit overkill so between these three which would be the best for me to get and still later on be able to handle Crossfire / SLI later on. Still wondering about the motherboard too if anyone feels the need to answer =D

Forgot to add the link /sigh

The current AMD chipsets are branded 8xx, such as the 870/880/890, and they have a sku after them such as the 890FX chipset. The 9xx line is designed for, and will be released with, the desktop Bulldozer CPU called Zambezi.

I don't know anything about Coolmax powersupplies, but I Googled up a review of it by JonnyGuru. According to his test, looks like an extremely poor unit that will likely have you buying replacement parts if you stick it in your system.

The third link just takes me to the TDs PSU page, no particular product.

I heard the bulldozer got delayed for a few more months (source is one of my mates who told me so i can't link it, u shud inform urself about it if you have doubts about my claim)...

i'd go for a Z68+25/600K instead. ( altho it looks like ur an AMD fanboy seeing as u took both the gfx cards and the cpu from AMD)

again.. its just advice, it all coems down to reading tons of revieuws and makeing up ur own mind.

Your "Mate" is wrong. The motherboard suppliers have already began posting listings with suppliers and wholesalers for next month, do you think they would stick suppliers with motherboards and no CPU's for months?

Although the exact date is unclear it IS in June.

0 listings found on Date postponements found.

Sorry Neeko, but I kinda don't trust a random poster making random claims like that. Particularly if they invoke the "fanboy" card.
    Seriously, get a grip.

Thankfully you achieved suggesting a good idea though. The P8P67 or P8Z68 and an i5 2500k will be very good choices.

i heard from a friend who read somewhere on a blog about a guy who says his sister's husband works for the company that does the raw materials supply for AMD who thinks that the delay might happen....etc., etc., you get the picture.

If you don't have a source, don't assume something you hear is correct, please.

Also, "fanboy" is the wrong term. Stray away from using it. I tend to suggest AMD cards; does that make me an AMD fanboy? No, it just means I prefer them for the general price range of cards that I suggest.

Alright thanks, I probably won't be able to really buy anything until late August so waiting on the Bulldozer isn't too big of a deal; any comments on either of those three PSUs I linked would be appreciated too =D

  17. #17
I wouldn't touch the Apevia unit.
Both the Kingwin Lazer Gold PSUs are solid choices. You would probably be fine with the 700watt version. You could also look at the Hale90 750, which also happens to be a Super Flower PSU.

  18. #18
Tbf all of those PSUs would be fine. It'd be a brand and cost choice imo.

  19. #19
Probably going to get http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=6077245 since its only marginally more expensive and it has higher reviews

  20. #20
The Apevia is an older unit. It also has no efficiency rating, and I can't seem to find any noise/ripple data on it, which is why I would steer clear of it. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad PSU, but lets keep things in perspective. It's a $70 price tag on a 750 watt PSU. Although I do believe in finding the occasional amazing deal, I'm a firm believer that if the deal seems too good to be true, than it probably is. Like most things in life, when it comes to PC parts, you usually get what you pay for.
