Request: Another Video Conversion program, perferably one that allows multiple files to be added at once and doesnt have any issues converting from .mp4 to .avi (divx/xvid)

I believe VirtualDub has a batch processing feature, does it not? I've never used it but I'm almost certain I've heard about it

mp4 importing is quite rare feature in free software because it's patented and illegal to distribute as binaries. VirtualDub does not directly load mp4, but it can do that via Avisynth, and you could use various avisynth-frameserver frontends to load clips into virtualdub or any other encoder for batch conversion.

More interesting question is why you need xvid anyway? It's pretty much dead format for all practical purposes, except very old stand-alone players.

So much MPC-HC talk so thought I'd share this thing as well since it hasn't been mentioned, I think. But there's a renderer called madVR (LINK) easily installable into MPC that has made a tremendous difference for me when it comes to making video playback smooth. Don't know if it perhaps is a SLI or a nvidia driver issue but before installing madVR my video playback was occasionally kind of stuttery.

And I guess it does a decent upscaling as well :P

Also I have a question. Can AvidemuxVideo Editor handle HD files? Movie Maker is a horrible program for true HD video formats imo.

I need any format that isn't mp4 or mkv... since I still haven't managed to fix the issue with my TV not being able to play them. (Windows Media Player, VLC Player etc... just crash when a file of either type is played on that screen)

It is kind of free in that you get full or at least close to full functionality if you don't buy but there will be a nag-window telling you to buy it. So it's basically shareware.

Think it's just the mp4 container, since avi's saved with mp4/aac streams just use the divx decoder but I don't use it because the quality sucks.

I would add Secunia (It automatically checks for outdated software on your computer and allows you to update them quite easily), Comodo (a firewall to replace Window's Firewall), and HD Tune (A hard drive scanner) to the list if it's possible.

BTW, all you need now is www.ninite.com. Has all the free software AND comes with it's own installer that will not install any of the craptastic toolbars and other crap that comes bundled with the free software.

I didnt see sandboxie mentioned. I sandbox my browser in sandboxie to block malware.

Maybe it's a lil much to ask but is it possible to gather all the info and software in the first post (maybe even under catagories). Could be worth a sticky if a Mod or deticated member did a litle work on it.
