I'm allowed to have my own opinion. I won't write off a game until I've played it, which I have played enough of GW2 to know it's not my cup of tea. I'm not going to publish an article about how I don't like a game and people shouldn't play it. If anything, I'll cite my opinions on matters to allow the reader to determine if they share my tastes or show them that I'm not a fanboy. If being honest and saying that I don't think GW2 is as good as it's being touted is a "sideways remark," then what the hell should I say? Do I hope it fails? No. Do I think it will fail? No. Do I think the bubble is going to burst for a lot of people? Yes. In my opinion, there's no way it'll live up to the hype for everyone. The same thing happened to Warhammer, Age of Conan, Aion, Rift, and Star Wars; people put new games up on a pedestal. They're doing it to Guild Wars as well. I'm not wishing failure on GW2 at all. I'm wishing people would quit having these unrealistic expectations that no game can reach. All those games I mentioned previously were good games labeled bad because they didn't reinvent the wheel for those people that wished so hard that it would. I think you're reading too much into what you think I'm saying instead of taking what I say for what it is I'm saying. I said it won't live up to expectations (jesus on digital download, according to a lot of people), I didn't say (ever) it wouldn't be a good game.

This is a TSW thread. If you or anyone else has any issues about my opinions on GW2 or anything, this isn't the place. I've said my peace.

Once Funcom releases new character creator everyone should get one free character recustomization. But gender change may not be included dunno.

I've actually been pure sword tank through all the game and added hammer in Egypt to improve my AOE even further. It' s a little boring yeah, but the AOE capabilities and the survival are very high. Besides, I find it more annoying to hop around in fear of getting an add. I don't really die that much, I just facetank 4 of those 9k mobs and don't break a sweat. And from my experience you can only see a serious difference in time spent on a solo mob compared to a pure dps spec in Transylvania and some of those guys are loaded with ql10 blue gear.

It's an annoying quest but in the end you're rewarded with that knight of the circle guy conversation options (well unless you've already spoken to him) which are awesome and hillarious

All I can say is I didn't think this MMO would be all that, I was basically done with them all. WOW has become boring, SWToR is just WOW in space, COH/V no long feels fresh. I was just going to give up on MMOs, then I got into Beta, seemed ok. But now it is magic. What frustrates me most is server down time...grrr I want to keep going.

Tried teh game yesterday via friend's account and I am not impressed so far. To be fair I will try to be neutral here. What's "good" in general but not for me is the non linear questing. This game feels story driven. There is no such thing as quest hubs or 25 quests in your log. There are just 4 max. Some people might enjoy that, I dont. What is also good is the way they actually improved questing. I found it quite neat where you have to jump on cars to trigger the alarm and thus pulling zombies. Nice feature. Even stuff like the petrolium thing where you have to draw zombies through flames to burn them ...? nicely done. However, for me this is not enough. What I found a bummer is combat and animations. For example I enjoyed the sequence where you#re in the subway with those 3 npc guys and you literally kick ass with your shotgun. That felt good. Now I'm all blade and I only use 2 buttons. That is 3 and 2 after my bar is full. I pull 15 zombies, jump on a car, pull even more and AOE them down.

I'm still quite early in the game, however, combat feels boring, at least to me. Another thing is the lack of magic right now. I dont know whether I missed it in the tutorial (although that shouldnt be possible at all) or whatnot but I cannot use magic at all atm. That is another bummer for me. Animations, well ...jump animation is awful. I mean, come on ...this cant be serious right? It looks so incredible stiff! Animation canceling is also weird. The game isnt a combo based game so why the canceling via button mashing? I dont get it.

And last but not least ...setting is cool, story might be cool although I'm not interested in it at all atm because I wanna play, not listen. And the cut scenes ...come on. It somehow feels like TOR onl with half of the voiced dialogues.

To sum it up, the game is okay, it has some neat features, it lacks stuff, there might be imbalances (ofc) and it is Funcom which means I'm highly sceptical about the future outcome.
Fans will love it, some people will hate it. I was bored quickly. But that is mainly because combat right now feels pretty dull to me.

I was not impressed with the game before I started questing in Kingsmouth. Jumping on car/igniting zombies that's just questing basics of TSW and the tutorial instance is not very well done either sadly. It gets way better imho once you go through a few investigative missions in Kingsmouth.

Magic you need 2nd weapon for it and that you can pick up with one of the quests in sheriff station.

VO personally are way way way better than in TOR. I am really questioning the quality of voice actors BW is using to make their VO. Dialog options/no dialog options I prefere no dialog options ... and when you say you want dialog options and then say you want to play not listen that does not match up. I want to play as well more than picking through 27 dialog options just to pick up a quest and here TSW I think is good middle ground where you can listen or you can exit the conversation and have the quest picked up.

Animations mentioned before some ppl have issues with them and they can be better to be frank.

Combat you need to get more abilities to get more interesting rotation.

My part in this story has been decided. And I will play it well.

I am in egypt currently rank 8 Templar , got QL 6-8 gear .
Almost done with the soldier deck for survival solo play , I do some dungeons with my friends .

So far the questing is good , I love how some quests make you think.
It does feel like a solo game from time to time like another mmo I use to play , but that's really my fault for not partying up to do quests .

The game is not perfect , it has a learning curve from the norm which I doubt alot of impatient wow players can curve.
Past that point an the game is rich in lore and questing.

Sure it has bugs but I doubt anyone here can point out a mmo without them in the first month.
And I think ppl are crazy thinking the upcoming mmo will be any better with bugs

I still feel that the story dawning of the endless night is a hot mess. Even after doing all the missions before the main story line (I just finished blue mountain) it's still confusing as hell. Yes I know beaumount is the cause of the fog with his sword and the sword was brought by the mayans?

However I have no idea who the hell beaumont is... He was banished from his tribe or something 600 years ago? IDK nothing explain his past. He just kept talking about it like I already knew.

Is there some lore that I need to collect first to know about him?

I have the impression from some of the things he's been saying that he's Loki or another banished/trickster-type. He mentioned the All-Father (usually Odin), being banished, trickster behaviour, etc. In Darkness War you also see there's Vikings, so that can provide a link right there. I admit i'm mostly leaning towards Loki due to the All-Father mention and the fact that's simply a mythology i know more about than Indian or Mayan, which are also both linked to this.
It makes sense tbh, though i might be wrong ofc, this is just personal speculation from the way he's talked about his past

There are some dialog bits from the questline that make me think that Beaumont is Loki. He says "and all this time I've been chasing a fucking hammer," and calls out to the All-Father towards the end. He also tells us a few times that he used to be a god. Pair that with Norwegian game designers, and it might be the case.

edit: Psychode be me to it.

Explains why he is pms over the gods all the time, though he looks like a wabanaki so you would think he is one but oh well. I wanna know what happens to cassandra after.. you know.

I don't know how to make the black things over sentences.

Along with what the others said as to his likely identity, I believe more of the story is yet to come, both in future zones and in additions to current zones - I don't know if we've seen the last of him or Cassandra, but I doubt it.

If you paid attention during some cut scenes you'll know who Beaumont is.

He referenced his disdain for "their gods" and how he'll make the gods pay.
    "All for a fucking hammer".
The sword was brought in by NORSE vikings.
    He's Loki

Cassandra actual identity is unknown. We do know she used Beaumont/Loki to get the sword. So, that leads us to believe she is a somewhat important mythological person.

At the end of Dawning of an Endless Night.

The engines pull you before you have a chance to really stop Beaumont/Loki or get the sword from Cassandra. So, they either wanted her to get it on purpose or when they gave you the choice of the "gift" or leaving, it might have been to stop her.

After thinking about it, I'm really wondering if Virgula Divina was some sort of tie-in to the TLJ universe. It had the same vibe as the end of Dreamfall, and Orochi is oddly similar to Wati-Corp. I seriously had an "oh shit" moment last night when I was in the nursery room.

There is plenty of killing to be done beyond the sheriff's station and the variation in the types of quests have been fairly wide ranging for me so far.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like you got too far beyond the very start of the game...as in, you gave it less than an hour. Some of the killing quests (the one with the metal golems at the scrapyard) are far from easy or boring as its a multiphase fight and you'll get beat down pretty quick if you stay in one spot. Very, very few of the quests I've encountered so far are just the straight up "Kill 10 rats" type thing but you HAVE to kill things to get to/complete objectives. I agree with you on the jumping animations...they could be done better.

If you want to do magic then all you need to do is equip a magic based weapon (whatever is appropriate for the type of magic you are interested in) and start putting AP into your preferred type of magic. There is a quest just outside the sheriff's station that intro's you to crafting. I crafted my secondary weapon (started with hammer, but added blood magic).

Once you start getting enough AP's it starts to get really interesting as you are choosing which abilities to bring to the fight to get the job done. Some work better than others in different situations and it allows you to tailor your playstyle to your liking quite a bit. If you only have two abilities with the blade you are gong to see a lot of the same animations over and over again. Get more APs, get more abilities. From what I've experienced each ability has an animation to it...so more abilities = more animations = not boring combat. Opinions on voice acting sequences are subjective...but I have been far more entertained and intrigued by what I've been offered in TSW than what I got in TOR...and I'm more of a SW fan than a Lovecraft/Stephen King/etc fan.

TSW is definitely a step away from the WOW/TOR/Rift methodology in a lot of ways and there's a learning curve for everyone. I stepped into this game on a whim and knew very little about it before purchasing it. If I can slowly get the hang of things then just about anyone can.

As for the preference of heading to a quest hub and picking up a bunch of kill/gather quests that really mean nothing other than lootz to get you to the next hub to repeat the process...well, there are three AAA mmo's out there that excel at that (not intended as a dig, 2/3rds of those are good games). Picking up a ton of quests just to grind them out and pick up the next set simply would not work with this game.
