If you mean the countdown right on the main page, that isn't too release date - it's just to August 26th. 212 hours, so definitely not counting down to release.

I think it's the countdown to when Beta starts. They're running a community battle for Beta placements so it might be the countdown for that, too.

making a MMO is hard i guess for devolopers. and now that funcom has and said they have learned from their mistake from AOC.
am looking more forward for this game then SWOTR, mabye its because i love the conspiracy/horror themed games better.
Funcom want to make a successful game with the secret world.

who knows?... mabye this will be the next Wow.

Before AOC launched, Funcom said they learned from their mistakes from Anarchy Online..

Here is the secret... wait 2 months.... There are about 950,000 people out there that wasted $50 on AOC and wish they had waited for players to be able to actually fairly review the game, same for AO. After 6 months, starting two months late is not a big deal.. and it can save you a huge headache and $$.

my bad. well see the beta. the secret world looks promising to me. more then SW:Tor actually but thats my opinion. with the open beta will more likely see how the game is and spare some money

Looks good as an idea especially the realistic environment as well as the concept that "everything myth/conspiracy is real"
I have my doubst for the no class/no leveling mechanism but i'm really curious to see this in action.

Its a bad time to release an MMO these days; between the diehard fans of WoW that'll go down with the ship, the hype for SWTOR later this year and GW2 in 2012, I can't imagine they'll be a big hit.

Subs+microtransactions seems a bit greedy to me. WoW can get away with it because WoW is massive, and frankly very polished. I think Funcom is pushing it in a new game. There are also concerns over what will actually be in the shop. They've said cosmetic, but the AoC shop sells xp potions, and some gear.

Pissed off, because I would love to be able to get excited about this game. Fingers crossed from now until April I guess.

AoC is free to play so can't really compare.
And WoW isn't the only MMORPG operating with this model, it's not that uncommon.

Only P2P game that doesn't have an item shop nowadays is Rift that I can think of. I'm sure they will go to that at some point as well.

If the micro-transactions are just vanity items then no big deal. But judging by what they have done with AoC I'm not so sure of that.
