Should Casters' main source of stats come from a melee weapon?

hey guys, was just doin some thinking about the game and was thinking how dumb it was that casters' main source of power and stats (or a large portion) comes from a sword which we dont use on anything except seeing which caster can kill the other one in a duel only by meleeing. I would LOVE to see a major if not complete overhaul of this for the solid caster classes like us warlocks, mages, and priests. that completely switched the use of the sword/dagger/mace to the wand. We are casters and our wand should look EPIC and be a huge boost in stats for us not a melee weapon.

Secondly, this could let boomkins, elementals etc have a selection of melee weapons that stayed the same but would let looting be a lot less generalized. basically less competitive rolls.

so i guess i going to poll to see if anyone thinks its dumb to see casters main item being a sword etc.

I kind of feel the opposite. To me wands are hella lame and I wouldn't want to play as some bearded guy in a robe dancing around sprinkling magic dust on shit with his wand and wearing a wizard hat shouting "ABRA KADABRA".

So basically fuck the guys who don't use wands?

Or do you want super duper awesome looking relics

What about staffs ? The classic mage "weapon".

Can't have wands and staffs give huge boosts.

It would be nice if wpns played a roll in casting animations or something, more so with the legendary coming soon. Main hand, off hand and 2 hand wpns are a large stat battery for all specs/classes which is the only real reason they are for casters also. Its much like the hunter that may never swing his melee wpn but gets a ton of stats off of it.

It's fine the way it is.

fine the way it is. it would make more sense if it came from a staff, but then again a sword and a offhander equals the same sp as the staff so it makes sense lorewise too.

    it's ok as it is
in lots of fantasy universes, the weapon acts as a focus for the power, like a lens and the sun's rays

a mage/caster uses there weapons. its just that the wow animatino doesn't let you see it.
if you look lore wise. caster weapons are made to empower a cast.

u guys are missing the point. i dont want to sprinkle magic. all the difference would be is that wands would have the large chunk of stats instead of a sword. you dont "sprinkle magic dust" with a sword so y would u with a wand. i dont even care if its animated. i just think that it makes more sense for it to be the casters main source of a power. i know this is going to be a lame response but im going to say it anyways. Harry Potter is the perfect example. u dont see any of the warlocks being good or bad casting with a sword. you see them with a wand. Sometimes a staff. like the Lord of the rings dudes.

They could make its so you have a wand and offhand OR a Staff that would be fine as well. that gets rid of the melee weapon. I just dont feel a Sword or dagger is caster-ish.

AND for those of you who say what about when your oom....well add a casting animation for the staff.

Also to the guy complaining about relics. ur a hybrid class u should have a melee weapon.

    Harry Potter = Wand
Lord of the Ring = Weapon

Lord of the Ring > Harry Potter imo, i mean look at Saruman and Gandalf, they are badass. Also, i think the Nazghul King use a demonic sword (or is it a flail + sword i dont remember)

Staff's swords, daggers are all highly visible, which is a major part of the character design, more often than no the better stats a weapon has the better it looks, only time you see a wand is when your wanding stuff (which should never happen at max level)

so no, having another item as major "stat stick" is not a good idea

I guess I could see Wands becoming a 1H weapon, with Wand-users switching to Relics, and the only people still using a ranged weapon would be hunters, rogues and warriors. A couple tweaks could see to it that the Ranged slot just becomes a Relic slot, with Hunters weapon slot just being a stat-heavy Bow/Crossbow/Gun, Warriors & Rogues using a the "throw/shoot" skill to chuck their current weapon at a target (with lesser damage for 2H warrior weapons).

But that would be a major redesign, and I'm very much happy where it is now. I like seeing crazy-looking staves, though seeing them as part of the casting animation would be nice.

ever seen a mage use fireball to trim thier toenails? it doesn't end well. that's why they carry swords

I'd rather not look like harry fucking potter... I would actualy prefer Swords and Daggers.

A caster's main source of power is HIMSELF.

Personally, I would love for wand damage to actually mean something. I mean, they all say that they deal x damage of y type, but who uses a wand for that purpose? No one. Instead, I think that the damage component from the wand should be added to our spell damage. Then it would be comparable to hunters, who get a lot of their stats from their melee weapon, but count on their ranged slot to give extra damage to their abilities.

Would be sweet if Blizzard found a way where you can choose to incorporate your weapon into your casting animation.

Face it, in WOW the items are better than the player characters. I used to think it funny my staff had more int than my character
