    Problem installing BioShock 1

So I've taken a hiatus from WoW. Not the same reasons as TB because I'm not a raider, but I'm just not finding the awesomeness in it anymore post-Cata.

So I'm trying out some rpgs, and my friend recommended BioShock's. So I got number 1, and I'm trying to install it, but it gets stuck on patching. My internet connection is fine. Any reason why it may not be working?

    Thanks in advance.

PS: It's an original copy. Not pre-owned, and bought from EB Games IRL. Physical copy.

Can you not play it unpatched?

I think it plays and connects through the steam network, maybe-

Try installing steam and then the game..

Sorry! Posted this thread just before I went to work.
Can you not play it unpatched?
Sadly no. I tried canceling the patcher, but it just shuts down the entire installation, and so I have to install it all again.

I would if my internet wasn't so close to becoming over-downloaded.
But, thats just BC. I bought this game, I have the right to play it as soon as it's finished installing. I mean sure, it has the warning of requiring Internet connection on the back of the box, but requiring to have something installed that is such a massive download is just BC.

You could try cracking the game. It is entirely legal as long as you own the game. Some of these crack can bi-pass the patching required also so you can jump straight in.

Another alternative is to download the patch from a 3rd party source and install it manually.

Just disconnect from the net and then try.

And also, if it requires Steam, it should say so on the box or in the manual, and I can't see anything like that so far.

Think I got it working. No need for Steam so far. I disconnected from the net and then reconnected, then tried patching. Worked like a charm.

    Thanks all for the advice.

You may be able to buy Bioshock on steam for the computer. But the boxxed copy from stores is most definetly NOT apart of steam. I think it's kinda like GTA4 (pc) you can have the box copy with zero connection to steam, or just buy it from steam.
