This. Because of spam. Companies pay big money for a pack of e-mail addresses.

It is sort of incredible that spam can actually be worth money. Got to love the idiots in the world who will actually look at spam mail.

Got to almost, kind of, sorta feel bad for Sony. Maybe they will step back on their stance about modding/hacking the PS3 or w/e they were up in arms about that motivated the first hack.

I can't feel sorry for them if they are vulnerable to SQL-injection (its the most basic attack and the first thing ANYONE should secure, it's the textbook example). They also didn't encrypt ANYTHING. I can't feel sorry for them if that is how they treat their customer's data. I feel sorry for the customers who's information is lying on the streets but this is the only way companies get their act together and start securing their shit properly.

It's not really incredible seeing how cheap and easy it is for a spammer to do. Even if only 1 in a thousand people fall for it, they will make profit.
