Question SATA III SSD and SATA II SSD

So I just came into a nice chunk of money, a new video card is a given, and I could get a nice new SSD as well. I was wondering, would I notice a difference between say a Vertex 2 SSD from OCZ versus a Vertex 3 SSD? I know the write and read times are much faster on the second, but is it honestly noticeable in daily use? Especially considering all that would go on it would probably be Win7, WoW, maybe Windows Movie Maker (lol, I know), and idk, space for patches/other games maybe in the future.

    Thoughts?

Here's some references for anyone who would like a helpful link:

    Vertex 3 120GB SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227706

    Vertex 2 120GB SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227590

As you can see, there's about an $80 difference. Just wondering if that $80 would be a waste or not...

Do you have a SATA III capable mobo? If so you could notice your load times decrease by half.

The difference between the two SSDs will be minute in comparison between HDD and SSD. Personally, I would spend the extra 80 dollars on upgrading the video card, as it will give you more noticeable improvements.

I would have bought the Vertex 2. Simply because i got a list of components i want for my comp.

But if you are not planing to spend cash on other PC components, i see no reason not to get the vertex 3.

I have a P8P67 Rev 3.0 Asus mobo, so yes, has an Intel Sata 3 controller as well as a Marvell one. I'm just wondering if there'd really be any reason for me to get the Vertex 3. Like, yeah it's faster and stuff, but is it enough faster to warrant that?

For the record, I'll probably be getting either a 560 Ti or 570 as well with the SSD. Nice combo, if I do say so. To upgrade from a 9800 GT and HDD... x_x

No one here seems to think there is a big difference either

Well the ''feel'' difference in games/boot between Sata 3 and 2 is less than the difference between 560ti and 570. So go for the Vertex 2 + GTX 570, if the 80$ will be a deciding factor.

It's not that the $80 is quite a deciding factor - rather, I would just like to not waste any money.

If you've never owned an SSD before, you'll never know the difference between the two. Spending that $80 on the next best graphics card will let you push that slider bar a little further, which you will notice

you would probably want to get a sata 2 ssd and a new video card, the marvel controller is very temperamental, as well almost fails completely at raid

Like I said, I'd just be getting one SSD, have an Intel controller, and well, yeah. :P Not a huge RAID person, personally.

I don't think I'd really see a difference in WoW with a 560 Ti versus a 570, any of you disagree? I mean, maybe in super high population situations, but my 9800 has been handling 25 man raiding really well at medium-high settings and allowing me to Fraps at the same time, so I wonder if a 570 for me would be like getting the Sata 3 SSD.

To some it's expensive, to some it is not. I am not asking your opinion on if you think it's expensive or not, I'm looking for educated replies about the speed differences and if I would really experience them. If you're thinking 120GB is nothing, then you obviously have no clue what the point of an SSD is.

if you are looking for a performance comparison i run 4 sata 2 vraptors in a RAID0, i get 330Mbs read/write, a single sata 2 SSD can come close to that, a sata 3 ssd can beat it

is the difference noticeable? yes, worth it? up to you

personally i'd stick with sata 2, the marvel sata 3 controller is just crap, and only thrown on boards so the mb manufacturer can claim sata 3 support

Again though, my mobo has both an Intel Sata 3 controller and a Marvell one. :P I have 4 Sata 3 ports, 2 are darl blue, the other two are white.

then it's really your choice, you will see a difference in load times with the vertex3 over the vertex2, another good option is the intel 510 series
