Backing up Hardrive to Macbook

Title really says it all, i dont have a second hard drive and i need to xfer important files games music etc because im doing a clean wipe of my pc.
So, ive been told to use a lan cable? help??

If you dont have a external HDD, then your probably going to have to set up a network folder on your windows computer and go on your mac and copy all of the files over.

If you can't figure out how to do it wirelessly, go to a computer store and buy whats called a "crossover" cable. It looks just like an ethernet cable, but has two wires inside crossed over. This lets you connect 2 computers with it and transfer files between them

ok thankyou, i will look into that cable, also cause im running low on computer space i only have one hdd (500gb), i was thinking buying a second one (1tb) and using the hdd im using now as a backup and transfer all my games and stuff to the new hdd?
