Another vote for Freddy Mercury here. His voice is just amazing.

    Other notable contenders:

Seasick Steve - Just a legend
JR Hayes of Pig Destroyer - By far the best metal lyricist and vocalist I think I've ever heard
Dave Hunt of Anaal Nathrakh - The things that man can do with his voice aren't even human most of the time.

    But Freddy tops them all.

EDIT: Damn someone mentioned Alison Mosshart and I nearly forgot. Her voice is amazing too.

I would have to go with: David Gray-great singer/songwriter.

Maybe Eddie Vedder or Karen Peris from Innocence Mission.

    So hard to choose.

Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not-one-bit. So - me watching - he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it! Turns to me, and he says, "why so serious, son?" Comes at me with the knife... "Why so serious?" He sticks the blade in my mouth... "Let's put a smile on that face!

Aaron Lewis (staind) is really good too. Just listen to their music and you know why I love those singers .
Stole my words. Though I like that he can sing extremely well, like, he's not tone deaf, and that he can then go scream his ass off, then sing again with little damage to his voice.

Corey Taylor, and Anders Friden. [Slipknot/Stone Sour and In Flames respectively.]
I'll slap you so hard you'll feel like you've kissed a Freight Train..
