Ethernet card stuck on 100MB ...

Sigh. Well I was using a VPN tunnel program to play LAN games over the net. Since using it, my net card is stuck on 100MB, it wont go back to its 1000 MB speed. I have un-installed the programm, then re-installed the driver for the card, with no success.

Hamachi and tunngle were the programms used.

    Any ideas?

you need to go to the card properties box and change it back to 1000mbs, however, make sure you can fully use 1000mbs or its pointless as ethernet dumbs down to the slowest connection speed within it's broadcast domain, so if one of your computers is only 100 even with your card set at 1000 you will cap at 100

Does it actually cap at 100 then, or just goes 100 'cos the other machines' upload is lower?

    for example: PC 1: 1000 PC 2: 100 PC3 3: 100
PC 1 connected with PC 2 and PC 3
    Will PC 1 get 200?

    Edit: to answer your question

Right click My Computer > Manage >Device manager > Network adapters > Right click Properties > Advanced > Speed & Duplex
Thats where it is for me...

no, pc1 will read 1000, but only go 100, if 1, 2 and 3 are on the same switch/router, then pc1 is stuck at 100 regardless of who it is connected to

ethernet slows to the fastest common speed, ie, the fastest speed of your slowest connection

this is why on proper networks, wireless and slower computers are isolated away from the rest of the network

Actually if it's on a switch, you only communicate at the speed of the lower peer. Say you have 4 computers. 2 are gigabit, 1 100mb and one 10mb. All on a Gigabit switch. Anything talking to the 10mb will go 10mb, since that's the fastest common speed for the peers. But if the two Gigabit computers communicate, it will be gigabit. Switches handle each port separately. Now if it was a HUB, then it would be a different story.

Make sure all your devices (and connections) run at a 1,000 MBS transfer speed-otherwise you're bottle necking yourself.

The only time i've had it negotiate 100mb on a gigabit network was when the cable was flaky, swapped it for a known good CAT6 and it was fine. Otherwise....

All my cables exceed cat 6 requirements. As iv said, everything was running at gigabit speeds until i used those programms, which despite removing, have broken somthing.

The cable that I had to replace was CAT6, yet it was still bad. I'm not saying your cable is bad, but did you at least try a different cable?
