Eh I think of more of a context of a spartan i a tough mother#@!#$. But I think of the country(nation?) of Sparta more then the halo game. Also you have missed the Sparta in the Greek mythology.

I can remember hearing from my nephew about the 2nd/3rd Generation Spartans in Halo Reach and asking my nephew: Spartans? Like the Greek Spartans? Oh that's a cool way to reference those Halo soldiers lol.

it all depends on how the word is thrown into the conversation. if you just walked up to me and said the word spartan my responce would probably be "master chief, 300, or the college basketball team?"

This makes no sense. People use the context that the word is used in to determine the definition or meaning.

Sparta in our times is a city of Greece. In ancient times it was considered a city-state, as all other big cities, with it's own laws and way of life, although greeks had a sense of common ethnicity despite that fact.

Well a better phrasing would be real or fantasy Spartans. But Sparta in Greek Mythology would be under 300 historical Spartans.
