A veteran Paladin's loss of faith

I have been playing Paladins in WoW for a long time. I have done it all, classic pvp, pve, raiding from MC to BoT. I am an oldskool pvp ret paladin and holy raid paladin. I tanked and healed from Naxx to ICC in WotLK. I had high hopes for the Cataclysm paladin. I play 2 paladins, one prot/ret, the other holy. I geared them both up for Cata end game pve and pvp. What a disappointment! Of the 3 specs, only one is viable, prot in pve tanking only. Holy and ret just arent viable, period, end of story. I have enough experience to know what I am talking about.

As a Paladin, I have lost faith in the WoW dev team. I do not believe they are sincere about balancing paladins with other calsses in pve and especially pvp. After watching Blizzards shameful treatment of paladins for 6+ years, I have come to the sad conclusion that the current dev leadership is in fact biased against paladins, especially in pvp. Paladins are once again non-viable in high end pvp, particularly in the arena. There is no role that a paladin can fill in high end arena that another class or spec cannot fill better. When I log onto either one of my paladins, I feel a crushing sense of futility, hopelessness and discouragement.

I do not believe that the current wow dev leadership has any intention of balancing paladins. I dont think that even if they did, that they are capable of doing so due to personal bias against the class. Therefore, I have been forced to cancel my subscription rather than spend another entire expansion hoping in vain that my class will be fixed in the next patch. That has not happened in 6 years nor will it at any time in the future.

New leadership is needed on the wow dev team. The current leadership is out of touch with the player base and moving the game in the wrong direction. The only thing that would cause me to consider returning to WoW and playing either one of my paladins would be if the current leadership of the wow dev team were replaced.

[Citation Needed]. check state off dps. Ret is middle of the pack. Not non viable. Holy is stillthe best tank healer. And pvp fixes are on the way in 4.2. So stop your whining.

Why do people always push off design problems onto the people?

Problem: I have a square peg and a round hole. Peg must fit in hole.
Solution1: Round off the edges until it fits the desired hole.
Solution2: Make the round hole a square.

People's Perception1: Why didn't you just make both a triangle? Because clearly you're stupid.
People's Perception2: Obviously you are a moron - rounding edges or making the hole different doesn't change the fact that they didn't fit together in the first place.

Praise them for even trying to fit the pieces together, work with them to come up with better solutions through innovative play. Posts like this make them stop listening to you in the first place.

How many gladiator paladins have you seen lately? You are choosing a healer for your 3v3, why would you choose a paladin over a disc priest? You are choosing melee dps for your arena team, why would you choose a ret paladin over a warrior, dk or rogue?

    I rest my case.

Tbh, Paladins Have had a major Overhaul in my opinion, weve gone from are normal spam rotations Eg Prots 69696969 and rets SPAM CS, DS and Judge, and holys one button mashing for heals.... It may not suit everyones playstyle, but its definately and improvement, i agree prot is the stronger of the 3 specs followed closely by holy and ret isnt Too bad once you get used to procs and rota.

It will take more than a patch or two too get us "balanced", i dont beleive Ret should be OP DPS and i dont believe we should be the Best tanks or healers Either, although in some cases we do exceed more than other classes.

Blizzard is Juggling the development of two games atm and tbh im glad they are putting effort into their new title Titan, we all know Wow wont die any time soon, but there will be a day when the game ceases to be as entertaining to millions as it is now.

If you dont like the way paladins are atm, i suggest you play another class in the time being until paladins are up to your standard.

    ^This.

And what OP seems to be saying now is "QQ my class isn't OP so it sucks".

Paladins have been in much worse shape than they are now. But the nature of the class in terms of development (BLizzard have no clue whatsoever how the class should play from 1 mounth to the next) then its something we just have to accept. That is .. If your still playing. From the moment of Sunwell and onwards I can not trust Blizzard on any disission they make with the paladin class. Cause they dilliberatly left the holy spec well below par in SW - just to hurt them to a degree of beeing left out from raids. Thats unforgivable and the day I stopped beliveing in BLizzard as a fair developer.

I'm not sure if this is the case here but it's common when people see their class in the middle of the pack thinking they need a buff, when it's the classes on the top that should get a nerf and those at the bottom needing a buff. Pretty much if my class is not in the top 3-5 it's broken.

It was probably mentioned in order to establish some sort of veteran ship, so that people WOULD assume he knows what he's talking about.
But instead he just complains about the workers and not what would actually help the paladin class. Either way, this probably belongs in a CS forum on blizzard's site.

then how did this joke came up?

    -Make a wish.
    -I want to be invincible.
    -Done.
-Oh wow I'm a Paladin. But why do I only have 2 spells?
    -It's all you need.

Yah...lets see how fast this can get locked. Good intentions (kind of), but bad timing, and the trolls are coming out of the woodworks.

AS FOR BIAS: They are't biased, they just have no clue how to balance us. Should we be able to off heal viably? Then we can't function as dps. But we don't want a off healing spec, so nerf the off healing, but no buffs. This goes back and forth for a while with no real changes.

Also, holy isn't in a terrible spot right now, even with the mana nerfs. Ret is still up in the air with the current trinkets this tier, but if they turn out halfway decent, we'll be mid pack again, something that should not be unfamiliar to palys who played wotlk.

Anyway, lock please, this will not end well.
It's not just me, it's ALL rets. Join the ret MS club, get bitches, get money, get nerfed.
It takes idiots to do cool things. That's why they are cool.

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot I was in the paladin forum. qq l2p etc etc.

Maybe playing for 6 years makes you forget that there are other games out there. You don't continue to buy bad games, you look for new ones by different developers. You don't have to write a thesis on one companies development team just because your vision and theres, after 6 years, is [sarcasm] shockingly [/sarcasm] out of sync.

well, not everything you claim is correct. paladins in pve are fine. pve balance is really not an issue in wow, they tweak things all the time, and classes rotate from top to bottom and inbetween. hunters are tops atm. theyre getting a few nerfs. warriors are highest melee right now, they are getting a little nerf. the bitching about pve balance is rarely ever warranted, things change too often within a tier for their to be actual legitimate concerns, though dps shamans kinda suck way too much atm, but theyll get their buff soon enough.

however, in regards to pvp, you may be right about rets. we lack the tools of several other melee classes. and there are countless posts about this, needing snares, gap closer, etc. yada yada yada

If there's one thing I'm not, it's in control.

For me, it is too late to sart over. I was also playing a warlock and a shaman. I liked both of them but enough is enough. My classic Commander paladin is useless except as a pve tank. Yes, my standard is high. I know from watching and playing other classes (priest, mage, rogue, dk) that blizzard is more than capable of designing and building classes that are viable in high end pvp and pve. Why they refuse to do the same with paladins is beyond me.

In my experience, there is only one thing that blizzard listens to and that is the loss of subscriptions. They have already lost 600k, if that does not get their attention, I dont know what will. I have moved my entire guild to another very popular and growing MMORPG. We are having fun and we start raiding soon. Its good to log in knowing that not only can I play multiple roles but that I can find a way to make each one of them work and have fun doing it in pvp and pve.

There is a ret on my server sitting at 2409 in 3's. :I

And rets in my guild pull pretty beast dps.

Holy is only really suffering in arena. And that's a whole different ballgame. In pve we're fine.

    Good players adapt to changes.

I think the bold text states everything the OP needs to read. Cut and dry.

We are jack of all trades, master of none. It's right that we are not the best tank, healer or melee dps, but our ability to fill every role in raid (except of ranged dps and no, the Shockadin is DEAD!), give good buff or utility (replenishment and selfless healer from retri, divine guardian from prot, lay on hands in all 3 spec) are our real weapons.
