WTB huge slow download link

TLDR - I'm in need of a big downloadable file that's going to take a long time to download so I can check how reliable my internet connection is over a period of an hour or more on my backup computer. Legal download, please no horseporn/childporn crap. If you have a better solution please speak up. (Write up?)


Hi guys. I'm a bit of a technological neanderthal so bear with me. No pun intended.

I have two computers - a shiny sort of new one that seems to have trouble with its normally reliable internet connection. When it works, it's fast and fine - but way too often it irregularly and intermittently hiccups a few times every minute, which kills any attempted download or browsing of graphically intense websites. You don't want to know what brand my new one is, suffice to say I bought it specifically for the capability to record WoW movies without the UI showing.

Other laptop computer I don't use much, it's much older but right now it seems fine.

Cable internet provider replaced the modem and says everything is fine, I've replaced the cable to the modem as well. So now I'm sitting on my old computer waiting for the unreliability to kick in and hopefully prove that it's not my shiny new computer that's messed up.

I found a WCM download link of my old mega-huge movie, so I've got something for an hour. Anyone have a better solution?

I'm not terribly smart about this stuff so any help would be appreciated. Couldn't think of where else to ask. The file will be deleted asap, unless it's funny/cool/useful.

Have you checked to see if there's any interference due to the phone going off?

You don't need that.
Take a website, open cmd from run and write
ping -t www.[thesiteyouchoose].com
after a while stop it with ctrl+C
The lower the number of lost packets, the better.
Ideally you should get less than 1-2 lost packets per 10 000.

Thx for the replies, the speed is fine, when it does work - other times it's just me sitting there looking at a "Sending request..." line.

My backup laptop seems fine, so guessing it's my shiny.

Nope, straight to modem. I used to really care about my ping.

Could download something big via µTorrent and check the realtime speed graph.

Get some legit huge torrent going and limit the speed to 20kbps or so, and check the speed graph afterwards to see if your connection went out at some point.

Ubuntu is 685mb takes 6 minutes to download, not really what I call big and slow.

Everquest 2, you can download the full client, which is 13.5 gigs and the game is free, so free game and big download = win win?
