Building from scratch - Need help

I've been stuck with a laptop for gaming, and am looking to build a new pc. I flat out just don't know where to start, hoping i could get some pointers from you folks here. I'm aware of each part that i need, cooler, gpu, cpu, etc. but passed that i'm not sure exactly what i need.

Looking to spend around 750-800 USD, I currently play WoW, and am looking for a comp that would run raids well, as well as TF2, and a plethora of other games.

If anyone would be kind enough to give me any hints / tips or even redirect me to a website that would give me some basic information on how much i should be looking to spend on which pieces, which brands i should avoid, which specific parts are quality, and other information that i will be needing as i go about researching this it would be highly appreciated.

TL;DR Looking to spend ~ $800 on a computer, no idea where to start.

I prefer the intel i5/i7 series. You can get an i5 2500k for $220 plus another few hundred for a nice motherboard. Then throw in a GTX 560ti for around $250. Spend $80 on 4-8gb of RAM and the rest of the money on a decent power supply/case. This setup my stretch your budget just a tad but it'll be worth it. Tallying everything up that you'd need you'll probably be closer to $850-900. You can always downgrade the video card though. I ran a GTX 260 up until a week ago and it was great. You can find those for under $120 now.

You could use the $700 build and spend the extra money on a better gpu like the 560 from the $1000 build

$800 is low for a gaming computer if it has to include monitor and Windows also. Something like this could work:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229266

    and

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009261
    or
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009256

The $130 monitor has FullHD resolution so it looks much better when watching movies. Computer has a problem that it can't be overclocked because of motherboard limitations and graphics card is not terribly powerful, but it's pretty close to best you can expect with the budget.

That $700 computer from the "sweet spot" thread is otherwise much better than the one linked above, but it does not include windows+mouse+keyboard which will cost you over $100 extra.
