    Explain this.

This is a system I am working on for an office machine. All parts are brand new.

    Core i3 2100
    Asus P8H67M PRO
    4GB Corsair DDR3-1333
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB
    Coolermaster Elite 370
    430W Corsair CX PSU
    Win7 Pro x64 SP1

Yesterday I had windows installed, updates done, MSSE installed, and all drivers installed. I left it on overnight.

When I got into work this morning, it was into the windows boot recovery mode, says it "could not fix the install", and was asking if I wanted to do a system restore (which I just skipped). The system rebooted fine, as if nothing happened, but a number of errors show up in event viewer.

Computer browser service fails to start due to dependency on Workstation service.
Workstation service fails to start due to dependency on SMB 2.0 MiniRedirector.
SMB 2.0 MiniRedirector fails to start due to dependency on SMB MR Wrapper and Engine.
SMB 1.x MiniRedirector fails to start due to dependency on SMB MR Wrapper and Engine.
SMB MR Wrapper and Engine fails to start due to dependency on Redirected Buffering Subsystem.
Redirected Buffering Subsystem fails to start due to the service not existing, or being marked for deletion.
Redirected Buffering Subsystem fails to start due to dependency on non-existant service, Mup.
Failed boot-start and system-start drivers: CSC, DfsC, rdbss.
CSCService failed to start due to invalid path.
Group Policy Client service failed due to dependency on Mup, which does not exist.

I spent all day running stress tests (IBT, Prime95, Memtest86+, OCCT, SuperPi) to determine if the CPU or RAM was defective. All stress tests passed, although I plan to leave P95 blend running overnight tonight.

I'm guessing the Cav Blue is a lemon, but SMART checks out, and both Seagate Seatools and WD Data Lifeguard report the drive is fine.

Have you tried an sfc /scannow?

Running it now, actually. I think it's safe to say the windows install is fucked though.

    The question is why... -_-

long story short, you have a corrupt installation.

something might have happened during the night, all in all fresh install, pay attention, and you should be okay.

Probably did some windows updates overnight restarted itself and the updates didn't configure properly during the installation.

As for the 1TB Cav Blue being faulty I use WD hard drives in all of my system builds at the store for the last three years. In three years time I have sent back one drive a year for RMA in comparison to Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 series where I sent back 8 in three months.

    In closing I like WD.
