Wait, so the FACTORY_IMAGE has the virus? Or what? I'm a bit confused. Download Microsoft Security Essentials and Anti Malwarebytes and run both of those in safemode to get a nice deep scan for viruses first.

No. You can do that through the default disc manager in the command prompt as far as I know. However, I have no idea how to do it. I'm sure someone else will post with instructions.

How do people manage to get virusses all the time :S I ran windows for 2 years on my laptop without a virusscanner and I had a grand total of 1 virus. Highly annoying one that kept spamming warning boxes every 30 seconds... Also it put all my documents to hidden. Took me 3 weeks to figure why all icons where greyed out XD

For the rest, follow Fuzzykins advice.

iirc, you need to burn the factory image to a DVD so you can use it as the install disk. The factory image on it's own won't do much.

Yeah, viruses can come in many forms. The only reason porn sites are targeted is that you're not exactly thinking about your computer when you visit those sites.

Maybe I should ask my sister that question, she has a tendency to get virusses too. And she only plays flashgames on facebook.

Anyway, any luck getting into D:\ so you can burn it to a DVD?

    And how.....

Anyways if you want more help OP you should visit the sticky at the top of this forum. Along with that you should post your version of Windows. Whether or not you have a factory image backup of the hard drive or if it is just the recovery partition. If it is just the recovery partition we need to know the make / model of your computer. All I can think of for now, busy myself removing a virus off a clients computer. The masquerade viruses are annoying but so easy to take out.

Plugin or browser remote code execution exploits, optionally mixed with privilage escalation exploits. (Though the latter is usually not necessary with peoples tendency to auto-admin)

Adobe Flash, Java, and Adobe Reader are well known to be quite rich with exploits of this type.

Firefox itself has also had quite a number of usable exploits; so whitelisted compromised websites (which includes MMO champion at some points) have also been distribution hosts.

Good malware doesn't make its presence known to the user. Any decently programmed keylogger/botnet will be nearly or completely invisible to the user (and yes, the task manager).

Thankfully the good stuff isn't what is hiding in your porn.
