Different strokes for different folks and all that. The fishing analogy was a good one. Theirs no point trying to claim your type of geekery is somehow better. Just enjoy it and let others enjoy theirs.

While I may not be able to impress girls by saying I play WoW...

I sure as hell can impress them by mentioning my other hobby which is American Football... Call me a douche or whatever but hey, it works and I really do enjoy playing it just as much as I enjoy playing WoW! So hobbies do count!

While at the end of the day, neither of these matter when you log off. You think killing a 25man raid boss is a big deal?

Speaking as someone who likes geek girls, I think you'll find it all depends who you're talking to XD

The good thing (or bad for some) with MMOs is that you get to set your own goals and objectives.
    This.
If you feel like you have an objective to accomplish and you're not having fun acheiving it, either you have the wrong objective or the wrong game.

Fishing in wow for a rare drop = playing slot machine

    Raiding = playing black jack.

    PVP = playing Poker

The only thing any of these things have in common is you are either in a casino or playing warcraft.

Fishing and slot machine don’t even require higher brain functionality you can teach your 3 year old or your pet parrot to do both.

Like I was saying, foff and have some consideration for some of the other players.

While it might be worthless to you, it might be fun for someone else (like me)

So quit being pig ignorant and hush up.

It's not like PvP is all-free action: you can only perform the very limited range of actions allowed by the code. Also PvP - oh, the irony - is supposed to be playable by and enjoyable to 10 years old boys.

It appears you don't have a clue. There is nothing challenging about PvE, it is not difficult by any means. A small amount of time and effort and you can be in your servers top raiding team. PvP is far more reactive if we are using the 'fishing bob' logic. But I would go as far as saying PvP is not horrendously difficult either.

The moral of the story is that PvE isnt that much more complicated than the guy clicking the fishing bob and PvP isnt that much more complicated than PvE.

Which is why LK25HC was killed by every 10 yearold in this game and why Ragnaros hc has been killed by thousands of guilds. Oh wait...

You're just proving you've never done any real raiding. The "very little practice" required to kill bosses that actually matter is hundreds and hundreds of wipes for the world top guilds.

There is nothing fundamentally complicated about PvP. You know what abilities the opposing classes have and how they're typically used. You know tactics that different setups use. This may come as a shock to you, but PvP players follow scripts too.

It's not really an issue, that's how MMO's are. The only people who should be concerned are those people with a bad case of OCD, otherwise you can always just say "no" to parts of the game you don't like.

I love getting achievements. They give me something to do to take up my free time. All of my hard earned achievements, like Loremaster pre-cata and Salty, made me feel like I accomplished something for myself in WoW. I am a proud achievement whore.

    It's so not that ...

Basically the question is: are you a better person if you prefer raiding that "requires strategy and blablabla" over fishing? No ...
I like to play videogames. My sister plays the piano, she's a teacher, she sings, dances, plays the violin, etc etc. She therefore thinks she's better than me. Why is that? I'm happy and I hear her do nothing but complaining about the amount of work she's got.
It's all about: what do you like to do to kill time (and something that doesn't hurt/annoy someone else)?

If you like doing achievements because you've got time to do it and it makes you happy: go for it! It doesn't make you less worthy.

So badges of shame? Don't make me laugh ... wasting time is all the point of this game. It's the point of reading, playing tennis, dancing, ... except for sex. Now THAT is an important matter!

And the day you realize that you are in no position to tell me how to have fun (or not) in a game is the day you become worth listening to.

And Blizzard, nor anyone in general, will disagree with you here.

You like to raid. You spend 20 hours wiping on a heroic boss.
I like to fish. I spend 20 hours fishing a rare catch.

How exactly does our time spend is any different or better?
We both wasted 20 hours of our lifes staring at a monitor filled with pixels.
I agree here. Achievements were designed to keep certain people interested in the game for longer.

I'm a Professor myself, but didn't feel at all like it was 'another grind' to get it. I was trying to get as much cool stuff from Archaeology as possible, mainly going for the Tol'vir Qiraji mount. I still haven't got it, however, I managed to get a title. For doing nothing extra than I would've been doing trying to get this Archaeology stuff, I got a title.
Same goes with Mounts and Companions. I have a fair amount of them and probably more than most (although much less than many). Currently I have about 60-65 mounts and 73 companions. Next week I'll be able to hit Revered with my Guild, allowing me to buy a Guild Herald and an Armadillo Pup, bringing me up to the 75 companions needed for the achievement which will reward me with a Fawn. Great. I did no extra work to get that Fawn, I just collected a tonne of pets like I would've done anyway. I like collecting pets. If collecting pets rewards me with even more pets, then great. "I heard you like pets so we gave you a pet so you could play with pets while you collected pets." That's how I see achievements.

I am talking about grinds that Blizzard introduce to the game just to keep us occupied. Things like obtaining the "Professor" title. Maybe even something like "Salty", since it is a major grind to get the "Dark Herring" or equivalent rare catch.

I know some people love doing those, but in my opinion they were just introduced to to keep the completists among us occupied and subscribed to this game. If you have one of these (or other) long grind achievements, did you enjoy the journey to finally get to the end?
Only grindy part of getting Salty title was the fishing events, which I've still not got.

What are your sources that back up these claims of no 10 year olds having killed LK25HC? I've been in PUG groups with 13 year olds that plowed through HC raids in WotLK. Also hundreds and hundreds of wipes usually only happen on overly difficult bosses such as Ragnaros Heroic. The run-of-the-mill Marrowgar doesn't take hundreds of wipes to kill.

I never said that there was anything fundementally difficult about PvP. There is just nothing fundamentally difficult about PvE either. The game is a casual game that is marketed at entire families.

I'd say the big thing with getting Salty is the fishing contest.. and that does kind of require perfect execution (with some luck, but still.. preparation and such is key, it's hardly "looking at a bobber for 20 hours").

Other than that.. don't judge bro. People like what they like, I for instance don't like raiding at all (except in Vanilla but let's not go down that road here)
