    Distributed Computing

So.... Looking around there seem to be allot of Distributed Computing efforts. Some of them even pay... But which ones are valid and which ones are just taking advantage of users to add their machines to a botnet for the likes of luzsec to abuse.

    Seems the Popular ones are:

    SETI
    http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/
    (Voluntary)

    Folding@Home
    http://folding.stanford.edu/
    (Voluntary)

    Bitcoin
    http://www.bitcoin.org/
    (
    Potential Payout)

personally i miss the distributed computing project to crack the original xboxes private key for signing xbe's
if microsoft hadn't of got it shut down it would have surely been cracked by now

Distributed.net is still up after about 15 years of work. I can't post links yet, but I think you can guess what their site is.

They have 2 projects - one is completely voluntary, second is a cracking contest - whoever's computer cracks the message first, wins a bit of money.

I saw that one... but dismissed it as bogus... (I'm very very sceptical of people offering money for anything on the internet...)

    It's legit.

Anyway, there's a whole list of such projects at wikipedia (List_of_distributed_computing_projects).
