    Linking systems for more FLOPS?

    Hi,

I'm a poor college student and cannot afford a super-powerful computer and keep it upgraded all the time. But I do have a ps3 and a laptop next to my desktop pc.

I was wondering, if there is a way to make use of the processing power of my other devices (could possibly also add smartphones, though i don't have one xD) by linking them together and creating a super-powerful home-pc.

I feel much of the potetntial of my devices is being wasted, while my pc is struggling, and could direly need a few more cores or such.

Is there a way to do this already? ( haven't heard of anything, but that doesn't need to mean much) Is it even possible/reasonable?

in short...unlikely. and to run wow at mid settings, you hardly need a super powerful computer.

It's -probably- doable. But it'd be really difficult and honestly? I have no fucking clue how to do it, and you're unlikely to see that much gain.

Goverment rigged many Ps3s together to make a super computer. I would say its possible. But god I don't know how you would. Maybe daisy chaining? (im tired sorry, i think thats the wrong thing).

If you could, i'd say run Linux on the ps3 which then might be able to do something? eh too tired sorry

I think this is one of those things, where if you need to ask if it possible or how expensive it would be, you will not be able to do it, neither would you be able to afford it even if it were to be possible.

From a practical point of view, this is not possible.

I was looking for a price for a price on FusionIO Octal drive a few weeks ago, and the first news post (and the only one if i recall) i could find of it said "If you need to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it". It becomes awkward when even if you were dedicated to getting it, you can't get a price readily available because of reviewers who're too up their own asses.
dell quoted me $14,899, might be possible to get one cheaper through CDW
