Video Games that can Best my WoW expectations?

I started playing wow at around march 2008 and I recently decided not to renew my subscription a month ago (2 weeks after Firelands was released). Of course I quit a lot more times before that but I would like to have a larger period of where I can take a break and can convince myself to renew once something in wow gets better for me. I have been thinking about renewing it many times since then, but also kept thinking to myself there are so many new games that I can play now. Like literally, the only new games I got since march 2008 has been dragon quest 9, mario&luigi bowsers inside story, mario galaxy 2, RIFT, Pokemon Black, Assassins Creed Brotherhood and none of these blew me away since the games listed below or wow. This tells me there has to more games out there for me to consider than joining back to WoW since the market is already so huge!

Now many of us aren't so completely sure on why wow is so damn addictive, but I always believed its because the game is always blowing away our expectations of what a video game should give us. $15 for 1 month, where I can play with other people, at the comfort of my awesome computer chair, where i can play with decent graphics, where i can tab out and watch porn, and still have fun, its not much of a surprise why the game is so damn good. Its no surprise why a lot of people tell me once you play one mmo, its hard for yourself to quit and play other games.

I have my personal reasons why I don't want to renew (and its painfully obvious I don't want to turn this into another wow sucks bash thread) so I was hoping you guys (video game nerds!) could give me or list me some games that can help me fulfill or go far beyond what wow has given me. Believe me I tried, and there hasn't been a lot, except a few exceptional but not enough to best wow.

Here are the games that completely made me fall in love with video games and fulfilled and went far beyond my expectations for video games, in order of course (numerically).

    1. Yoshi's Island (SNES)

    2. Crash Bandicoot Series (Ps1)

    3. Ocarina (N64) >> This game was much better than anything I played thus far

    4. Super Mario Sunshine/Wind Waker (GC) >> Close to Ocarina

    5. Final Fantasy 10/12 >> Best Games I have ever played in my entire life, still consider these two to be a little better than wow

    6. Twilight Princess >> Overrated but still good nonetheless.

At the moment, I am currently playing Majora's Mask (Wii virtual console) but am sad to see that as soon as I done killing the final boss, I am going to leave it for wow and forget about all of the side quests that made zelda games so awesome. Final Fantasy Games in general have been awesome (except 13) but none that are coming out (except versus 13) has me excited. And nintendo hasn't really released any new information in such a damn long time, don't know why. Nor is Assassins Creed Revelations going to be here anytime soon, same for Skyward Sword.

So yes, if any of you guys can offer some suggestions on what video games completely fulfilled and went far beyond your video game expectations compared to wow, then please by all means, tell me! Also I don't mind playing or buying games online, except on PC since I already feel that if I would be playing a computer game, I would play wow instead. I wouldn't mind buying games from the PSN or Wiiconsole store (most of these games are terrible though ).

    Thanks !

Some games that are really really nice and original:

Minecraft - countless hours of doing random stuff, play it online with friends though.
Amnesia: the dark descent - play it in the dark with headsets, awesome horror game
Limbo - the atmosphere and sound in this game is amazing!
Monkey island series (they recently did remakes of the first 2, where they only altered graphics/sound) - funniest games ever
    Oblivion - awesome modding community
    Monk, I need a monk!!!

Minecraft is purely a multiplayer game, so it won't be good. Amnesia is a horror/thriller game, not much fun. Limbo is an excellent choice, how long does the game take? Monkey Island seems to be a fine choice, thanks. Oblivion I already played but got bored after a few hours.

You liked Crash so definitely look up the first 3 Spyro games for the PS1, if you loved Crash you'll love Spyro, just stay away from the newer ones. Final Fantasy VII-IX, also for the PS1 should be good choices. The Kingdom Hearts franchise might also be a good pick, but you need a PS2, PSP, DS and a GBA to get all games (though Chain of Memories is not that good). Heroes III is always a solid choice, you can spend hundreds of hours there.

Oh man it's been so long since I played yoshi's island... I used to freaking love that game lol.
If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One... now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.

limbo is rather short, I'ld say 3-4 hours playtime the first time.

minecraft isn't purely multiplayer, the adventure maps you can download can be single or multiplayer, it's optional. I've been playing some of those. depending on who made them, they're quite fun. Professor Grizwald and the Redstone Keys had the amusing effect that the "you have found a secret" zelda tune would play using note blocks any time you found one of the hidden chests.

You sure those zelda tunes aren't from yogscast, heh heh.

At the moment, I am considering buying the final fantasy 7/8/9 on the PSN with a pre-paid credit card. Don't know which of those 3 are the best but everyone always considers 7 to be the best.
