    Looking for a RPG fix

I need a new game, something to give me a solo rpg fix.

Give that I'd like a game that is

    1. Relatively modern (last ~8 years), the graphics don't have to be stellar, but bad animation/ugly graphics break immersion.
    2. Solo
    3. Obtainable
    4. For PC
    5. The story is good. This is the most important part, something along the lines of Elder Scrolls or Witcher, not some trash plot around with combat is built, but a story with meat.

    Any suggestions?

    Oblivion
    Mass Effect 1/2
    Dragons Age 1/2
    The Witcher 2
    Fallout 3/New Vegas

    Go forth and enjoy thyself.

Not even close to what he was asking.

Your pickings are fairly slim besides those...have you tried Fallout 3?

Alas, all played well and often, Except Dragon Age 2, one of the few games I've just uninstalled halfway through due to boredom.

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

The prequel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and the sequel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, are also very good.

    Far Cry 2 is alright.

While my suggestions don't have a lot of the RPG elements from games like Oblivion or Morrowind, they do have that "open world" feel about them. STALKER is also one of the hardest series I've ever played.

    Just throwing this out there...

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Do you think Baldurs Gate 2 aged well enough to be enjoyable now? KOTR, for instance, is a great game, but feels dated by modern standards.

I agree that KOTOR hasn't aged well, but it's mostly due to aesthetic factors. The gameplay is still very solid.

If you can't enjoy Baldur's Gate II...I literally have no hope for you. The combat is meant to be simple and straight-forward, but that doesn't mean it's brain dead. Story is a huge deal in the game, and you'll often find yourself doing a ton of side-quests. I can't stress how amazingly badass that game is.

I was going to suggest The Witcher 2...

Maybe you should try the FPS RPGs like Fallout (or you can deep into roleplaying and play unarmed/melee weapons only).

    Edit:...you said Fallout...

    Two Worlds 2.

While there are some great games from earlier gen systems, alas its not what I was looking for.

I wish I had access to a PS1/2/3 so I could play through some of the recent Final Fantasies. FF:X still holds a spot high up on best plot/character development for me.

Played both, found witcher 1 a little better than witcher 2, which surprised me.

Mass Effect 1 and 2. My favorite games of all time

Oh yeah, Baldur's Gate 2 is a must. HOURS and HOURS of stuff to do and you shouldn't get bored.

There's not been a lot of CRPGs within the past decade that you haven't already played. Oblivion and Fallout would be the best. I'd really suggest getting a PS2 and playing through as many of the Final Fantasies as possible. All worth the time to play, minus maybe 11 now.

I once knew of a game named Sacred (1/2) - last time I tried sacred 2 there were so many glitches and bugs that I gave up.
