    Memory Help z68 Mobo

Hey guys I am having some problems on which ram to choose for my motherboard choice. The motherboard I have selected is

    ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z

    N
ow I don't know everything there is to building a computer, but I checked the QVL of the motherboard for memory. All the memory that it lists on newegg is deactivated or the specs don't match up in timings or voltage. Basically, I really want to use this ram -

    CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233183

s I hear sandybridge works well with 1.5 voltage memory. The reason for my direct choice of Corsair is mostly because of their excellent products and also this device -

    CORSAIR AirFlow Pro

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181014

For this device to function properly and as intended you must use the memory modules that are compatible with the product being Corsair Dominator GT being one of them.

The problem this ram is not listed on the QVL of the supported memory, and I said much recently before, almost every single memory module it has for QVL is deactivated and I cannot locate it nor does it suite my preferences.

I myself am extremely interested in utilizing the features of the motherboard that comes standard on the board, I heard all you really do is flip a switch and the cpu automatically overclocks itself. I also hear it can do this will your ram as well, but I am not sure I cannot find a detailed video on the motherboard.

Will that corsair dominator gt ram work in that motherboard?

Also the CPU cooler is no issue I am going with the Haf X case with the Corsair H100 water cooling in a push-pull system so the space for the memory is not an issue.

    Can somebody please HELP! :c

Here is the motherboard's website directly. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int..._ExtremeZ/#MSL

The reason everything on the QVL is deactivated? The QVL is old. Any DDR3 RAM will work in your mobo. 1.5V or below is recommended, but 1.65V will still work.

I demand you read this before buying any RAM http://www.anandtech.com/show/4503/s...-the-best-ddr3

Also, a cooler for your RAM is highly unnecessary. They're a relic from back when DDR2 RAM was up above 2V. 1.65V RAM didn't benefit from it, so the new stuff will run even cooler.

Thanks for your help. The memory cooler was more of a luxury than actually serving any purpose. I think it just makes it look cool

Do you think my memory of choice is decent for gaming even though the jump from 1600 to 1800+ isn't that extraordinary. Do you think the timings are okay? I want to use that air flow corsair product, but it's only compatible with this memory I beileve.

Personally I'd spend my extra money elsewhere, and go with the 1600. But I'm going to assume that since you have the Maximus IV you've already gone overboard on other components and just want to be flashy (which is OK). I'm still kind of confused as to what the airflow pro does. Does it just go over the RAM or does it go over the RAM cooler?

Anyway, if you do want to get with the extravagant setup, the 2000MHz kit is actually $10 cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145330

Overboard is usually my style. My main and most passionate hobby is gaming and I don't mind spending more money then I need to to be flashy. Flashy is how I like to be even tho I am the only computer geek here where I live so not many will see my build, (Nor do I want them to come steal it!) The cooler fits over the fan cooler itself, and it plugs into the compatible memory modules and it gives you a led display of heat and activity. Very cool little lightshow.

Yeah that's pretty sweet. FYI, I've read SB overclocks get limited the more RAM you have installed. Just food for thought!
