Question Touchpad is getting insanely hot.

Over the past week or so, I have noticed my Touchpad has been getting ridiculously warm. Not to a point where it's searing my fingers however, but if you leave your fingers there for a few seconds it's more than noticeable. Even when no other part of my computer is sweltering after a prolonged use (meaning my fan and hard drive), the touchpad is.

This isn't my main computer, but I use my laptop a lot as I'm not at home that much during the day, so it raises concern as I kind of need it. The laptop I'm currently using is a 'Samsung R719', and the touchpad 'Synaptics PS/2 Port Pointing Device'.

Does anyone know the reason for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Maybe you could try putting some water on it? I don't know much about PC's but normally water cools down everything, unless you're using hot water ofcourse.

Is your fan operating properly or is it potentially jammed with dust and debris? I don't know that that alone would cause the touch pad to heat up significantly more than the rest of the device. Perhaps your battery is located under the touch region of your laptop and as that heats up so does the touchpad because of improper ventilation.

    NO
It is not your touchpad. Your whole computer is heating up. What you need to do is.

    1. Do not rest it on your lap, ever, when gaming.
    2. FLAT surface
    3. Purchase a llaptop cooling pad and keep your computer on it when gaming or doing excessive work.

    trolololo

Get some compressed air, clear any vents/fans of dust and get a cooling pad.

-_-' The components under the touch pad are heating up. Combined with the friction of your finger moving across it rapidly, it tends to heat up quickly.

Pretty sure on that model laptop that the battery is at the back near the hinges, so not battery heat causing this problem. The only other heat generating thing under the touchpad itself is the hard drive I think? Has your computer been seizing up or behaving erratically?

Best thing to do is elevate the laptop to get better air clearance underneath - use something solid and flat like cork coasters. Check air vents for fluff and dust buildups and clean them out. You can get laptop coolers and they do work - they're like a couple of fans on a stand that you sit the laptop on. Laptop coolers that run from USB are bad though (cause more heat).

As an added bonus, touchpads are usually black, keeping even more heat.

Isn't that just with reflection of sunlight? -.-

It absorbs all light (Hence why it seems black to our eyes), causing it to heat up, since energy can't simply vanish.
So yeah, it adds to the overall heat of the touchpad itself.

Right, black actually radiates heat the best. It absorbs the most light.

The touchpad doesn't get light from any inside sources, outside yes, but I'm pretty sure, unless you have a shop light on it, or sitting outside, the black color of the laptop and touchpad dissipate the heat more than it actually absorbs

I have never heard that dark objects get hotter, only that light objects reflect the light more, which reduces their heat.

But with pads, there is no "light" from the inside, so the heat is purely from conduction from the inside of the pad.

Black and matt things get hotter fast. White and shiny tend to keep longer cool . I think thats because black sucks everything while white does reflect colours (It's a long time ago i had this at school)

OT: Gaming on your legs= BAD
Gaming on a flat surface=Better then legs but still BAD
    Cooling pad : GOOD
Lifting it up with a book/Anything: GOOD
Gief the fan space to exchange air= GOOD

    P.S

How can the battery be hot (Yes i know it should be hot by changing 230V to 12V) but somehow mine doesnt xD Never had a hot battery even while gaming on my legs xD

Dark objects absorb light as opposed to reflecting it with lighter objects, which also causes heat through radiation. However they also dissipate far better than their lighter counterparts.

It should really only get hot if it's plugged in, and that's just the energy transfer taking place that causes the heat.

just let someone (professional) clean your laptop and get a cooling pad( or have the laptop like me on 1 leg in the air with a ventilator on it)

    Thanks for the help everyone.

In regards to this, the hard drive isn't directly under the touchpad, it's in the middle of the laptop and actually is located closer to the back then the front. It doesn't seize up or behave erratically at all, everything is working perfectly at normal rates.

Also whenever I have it on my lap, I always make sure the hard drive and fan aren't covered so they don't heat up too much, and as stated previously my hard drive and fan aren't hot, just the touchpad, which is why it's strange and I could understand it otherwise.

I'll look into the laptop coolers.
