"Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity." ~ George Carlin
At first hated it with passion after watching 5 min of some random episode. Then like 2 years later I decided to give it a go as there was nothing else to watch in TV. It turned our not that bad at all. Ofcourse it will never be in my top 10 or even 20 favourite comedy series but might just scrap it to top 30 which is still good result.
Season 1 was good when the series was fresh. I wish they expanded on Leslie Winkle's character. A powerful female character, who isn't stupid and is actually nerdy. It's sad they just removed her.
Ok. First, just because I enjoy Big Bang Theory doesn't mean I don't like any of the shows you mentioned. Some of them are better. I would argue South Park hasn't been good in about 4 years, but that's beside the point. You like them more, and feel they have a higher quality. Good for you. I mentioned Mike and Molly because people were upset about the show before one episode aired because it featured two fat people, I never once mentioned my opinion of it. However, yes, I do enjoy the occasional low brow comedy. How crass of me.
Your other replies miss the point of what I was saying. I'm not at all defending why I like the show. I honestly don't give one flying fuck what random strangers on the internet think of my tv watching habits. I think that if you look at Sheldon and see yourself then there's something wrong with you. Like the Hispanic community getting upset at the Taco Bell dog years ago. I wasn't criticizing anyone for disliking it because they feel the writing sucks, or the jokes are bad, or really any other reason you might dislike a television show. Just the people who are raving about how "that's not how we really act!!"
Fair enough I guess.
I doubt anyone would ever even try to see themselves as Sheldon. The character is unlikeable, peculiar, narcissistic and obnoxious.
I'm also sure that most of the negativity against this show is hardly about how geeks are supposed to act.
It's just that the writing does suck, the jokes are really bad, zero character development, sheldon and peggie, non-stop dating subplots and a host of other reasons.
And some of the inaccuracies are obvious to anyone who has even used a computer not just "nerds".
Gamers aren't "nerds", nor is a windows user or comic book fan.
Nah, the thing is reddit is somehow socially acceptable but 4chan isn't. Also most think that 4chan = /b/ when in fact /g/, /v/ and /tv/ are completely different.
Media in general has a bizarre and inaccurate concept of 4chan when all it is is just a collection of anonymous imageboards. The "infamy" it has is mostly overhyped bullshit.
The snag is that 4chan "isn't politically correct", but reddit somehow is. The funny part is that a lot of the subreddits are far far worse than 4chan with extremely questionable and genuinely illegal content and that reddit is filled with unfunny forced memes.
But the media in general likes reddit so they put it on his T-shirt.
Penny... would wife.
I love BBT and especially episodes with Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) in! <3
The amount of hate I see towards this show in this thread is just baffling. The show put a comical approach to the nerdy/geeky post-grad/post-doc life, the jokes are heavily geared towards physics and techno-philes (not referring to music) with a handful of chemistry and biology jokes sprinkled in every season. If you don't get the jokes, then fine, stop watching it, there are other things better suited to your tastes. While the recent season hasn't been all that exciting, the previous seasons were full of all sorts of fun and the romantic en devours portrayed give insight to the minds of shy and awkward intellectuals.
I would also like to point out that the Sheldon character exists and is so liked for two reasons. First because he is in total just so absurd that it is funny to see what awkward misconception he stumbles into in tasks and situations that many would consider common sense. The second because there is a decent chunk of kids and adults that can relate to the character. Between his random obsessions, to his questioning of social norms, and his fearlessness to display his intellect and interests is something that can be admired.
In a world full of media trying to make kids become the High School jocks, this is a show that encourages some form of interest towards the sciences, although in a largely indirect approach. That in and of itself is reason to leave the show alone if you don't like it and to stop attempting to publicly lash out against those who do.
Except that we get all the jokes and think they aren't funny.
He's a genius but he constantly does stupid things ? How ironicFirst because he is in total just so absurd that it is funny to see what awkward misconception he stumbles into in tasks and situations that many would consider common sense. Is he an autistic savant ?
No it doesn't, it shows the mainstream how awkward geeks are and reinforces their own incorrect stereotypes, while introducing more inaccuracies. In a world full of media trying to make kids become the High School jocks, this is a show that encourages some form of interest towards the sciences, although in a largely indirect approach.
i find the show very entertaining.....and oh yea id bang penny like it was a porno![]()
