    low fps in steam games

I love the Total War series and recently got Shogun 2 which to my dismay requires steam registration. My internet connection sucks here and steam hogs my bandwidth, but even when I play in 'offline mode,' I get ridiculously laggy fps. I'm hoping there's some settings that I can tweak to get this to run because this computer is less than two years old and should still be able to run this.

Only thing I can think of is to disable the Steam overlay (Steam -> Settings -> In-game -> Uncheck the "Enable Steam...")

Other than that, lower the settings. Your laptop isn't the best and what I can see from the system requirements, those are pretty high.
