Can't use my USB ports

I recently had to restore my laptop to default settings because it wouldn't turn on. Since then, my battery is 100% dead, I can't use my laptop without the power cord. Now, I noticed my USB ports wont register anything being plugged in. All 3 slots aren't picking anything up.

Anyone know why?

Your battery may be short circuiting.

Pull out the battery completely, let the laptop rest for 2 - 3 days without using it at all (No power cord plugged in either).
Then put the power cord back in but not the battery, see if your USB ports live up after this.

I've had such issues alot on Acer Travelmate laptops, but i've yet to encounter it anywhere else.
