Mobile Graphics Cards 520m vs 560m

Wondering how big the difference is between the GT520M and the GTX560M ?

I've had a look online for comparisons but I couldn't actually find any meaningful ones like you normally get with desktop cards. Hopeing someone here either has one or both, or knows where a comparison can be found.

Yeah I guessed that much lol :P and even read that page... but in truth it doesn't actually tell me anything... comparing specs doesn't equal a comparison of real world performance.

560M should give you (at least?) double the FPS as the 520M does.

GT X20M GPU's are generally for watching youtube vids and playing farmville.

The screen res on the machine with the 520M is only1366 x 768 native, but I would be plugging in and likely using my Samsung 22" 1680 x 1050 120Hz 3D screen and using that 99% of the time as my main screen.

Then you really need to go with the GTX560, the video card in laptops is designed to work with the native screen not solely with an external one.

And farmville is your standard flash based facebook game.

The 560M is a traditional gaming GPU where as the 520M is a gpu designed for HD streaming video and playing things like Farmville and maybe Age of Empires Online. The 520M would support playing WoW but only at low or fair settings. I wouldn't expect stellar performance in raids either, but soloing or 5 man dungeons it would do just fine.

In summary if raids are planned you want the 560m if not 520 would be fine.

In truth, it only actually needs to last me 18months or so....

Rather than Spending £1,000 on a "new" laptop with the 560M which again might only get 18months use

What do you want to do with the laptop other than hooking up another monitor to it?

If you want to play WoW, I have a laptop with a Quadro FX 770M. According to notebookcheck.net they are almost similar in performance and I had to play it on lowest settings, 1680x1050 for 30+ FPS while questing. Raiding 10 mans wasn't so bad, but 25mans gave near unplayable FPS, especially since Cata. But that's with a C2D T9600.

SC2, Crysis2 games like that... the rest will work fine within the specs as its not very graphics intensive.

You also should take those benchmarks with a grain of salt. If I haven't made myself clear enough you want to go with the 560m.

Generally, apply the same logic you would with Desktop cards to mobile chips - i.e. A GTX580 = GTX580M, and is better than a GTX560 = GTX560M, for example.

Yea, but still... He won't be playing Crysis 2 with a 520M. Not at acceptable framerates at least.

Then you should find something in between. You're comparing the lowest possible gpu in that series with the 3rd best
