mostly due to the fact it cost like billions, dont worry tho soon america's private industrys will be taking over for nasa bringing in the era of cheaper space-flight for all and hell maybe even a casino on the moon

PS: What is with all the moon conspiracies in this thread?
its not a conspiracie dude, helium 3 would allow for real fusion which would greatly increase the quality of life for all human kind by bringing about (almost) free energy

Not necessarily true. Recent research has shown that amino acids, proteins, and RNA can form within microchannels of water contained in ice.

i love the people who say we have never been to the moon, have also never heard of the moon rocks we studied. or that thing we left on the moon that helped us learn how far away it goes per year from the earth

(yes the moon is leaving us very very slowly)

There's nothing there. It's a total waste of time and money :P

There's no reason to go to the moon? Really? You really can not think of any good reason why a return to the moon with 2011 technology would have any benefit? You realize in 1969 a state of the art supercomputer only had 2mhz of processing power and 4 Kilobytes of memory and 32 Kilobytes of storage right?

Do you know how small 4 kilobytes is? 4 Kilobytes is 32,552 bits (1 or 0)'s. You really believe that there's NO POINT in landing a man on the moon with the technology available to us today?

If you believe this you're blind. Learn to think for your self and stop believeing everything at face value. FFS.

First of all there is no way that technology existed in 1969 that could take a man safely to the surface of the moon, then return to earth, such technology doesn't even exist today. And the fact that the whole world believes otherwise is more damaging then you think.

Anyway, Nasa is working on getting back to the moon by 2018.. Why? Why not just go in 2011? Since they did it easily in the 60's and 70's? What happened? Did they forget how to get to the moon? No.. They never went there in the first place, and are planning to attempt it in 2018..

Because the Chinese are sending an unmanned craft to the moon in 2013. And they're surely going to prove that Man couldn't have landed on the moon in the fucking 1960's..

If you believe man landed on the moon in 1969, keep believing that. Because sooner or later the truth will come out, this isn't the sort of thing that can stay undercover for ever.
And I bet you believe the dinosaurs are man-made farces, to scare people into believing in evolution? (Or whatever it is they're claiming, I never read much of it.)

Because, the whole race to the moon was political in nature. After sputnik the US felt that they were behind the soviets, and after being beaten to several other mile stones like being first to orbit the earth. The US wanted to beat them to the moon, they succeeded with Apollo 11. There wasn't much reason to go back, other than for scientific reasons. People back then didn't know the advantages of putting a base on the mood, like titanium and fuel for nuclear fusion, even if they did the technology for a base wasn't possible with the technology of the day. So public interest going to the moon went away, the US impressed it's neighbors and showed up the USSR, and after few missions NASA stopped the Apollo program.

But we are coming back in 2020. NASA has plans to put a base on the moon.

    Then on to Mars.

Like the guy above said, He3 is there...and it would be well worth the effort to mine it if we could.

Once the space station was done I believe next it was a moon base but with the loss of funding I doubt it.

Yah, we still need to keep pumping out those billion dollar jets to fight the russians back in 1980!!!

Fun fact, the US spends as much money on offense, ohh I mean defense, as the rest of the industrial world combined.

  13. #93
Because there's is very little scientific value in it, and it's VERY VERY expensive. They did it once to compete in "space race" with Soviets, but there's is really no point doing that again.
The night is dark and full of terrors...

We only had to go there once. There's a laser that we built on Earth and then we placed mirrors on the moon, we can reflect the laser beam off the moon and hit any place in the world.

Officially, because our government majorly cut funding to any space programs. Until more cost efficient ways of traveling into space happens you probably won't see it soon.

Although give it another century or two and the worlds space programs will be booming again, the reason why being overpopulation and decline of our planets resources.

has the following responce been used yet?
    "no epic loot drops"
in all seriousness though, the moon is quite boring as stated before. there was a post where someone stated a mars landing should be done. i agree with that. the ability to discover potential habitation would be amazing since it was stated that mars did have some sort of eco system with their polar ice caps and such.

why go back when you can go boom instead...

Surprised and disappointed no one linked this:
