    Asus VE278Q or VG236HE

    Hi!

I currently have a 24" screen by Samsung (2443BW), my dad wants it, he needs a bigger screen and he plans on buying me a new one.

The 2 screens I currently have my eyes on are the Asus VE278Q (310 euros), which is a 27" 1080p screen with a 2ms response time, etc..
The other one is also by Asus, the VG236HE (260 euros), which is a 23" 1080p screen, but with a 120hz refresh rate. I do not care about the 3D options.

Now, my questions are; I'm currently running games in 1920x1200 on my 24" and I can max them all out, but will 1080p require more power from my videocards & does the size of the screen matter or the resolution that it runs for graphics? I hope I'm making sense and that last question is probably a dumb one, but I just want to make sure.

So, what do you guys think? Is the 120hz refresh rate worth it or should I go for a bigger size?

    Thanks!

EDIT: Also, do I connect a 1080p monitor with a hdmi cable or the standard dvi? Sorry for yet another dumb question, I've just never worked with 1080p be4.

    You are running 1920 x 1200 now?

    and switching to 1920x1080?

You are switching to lower res and will require less of your graphics card, screen size ( inches ) Does not matter.

HDMI / Dvi Does not really matter. both are digital, tho the HDMI can carry sound as well if the screen got speakers.

1080p (1920x1080 to be precise) is virtually the same thing as 1920x1200, just in 16:9 ratio instead of 16:10. The screen will be shorter relative to the same width.

IMO, once you start getting above ~24", 1920x1080 start to become a bit too small of a resolution since the pixel density gets lower. It will obviously work fine, but might not have the best picture quality. The farther away from your monitor you sit the less this will be noticeable though. Now for the other one, 120hz refresh rate can make a difference in the smoothness of gameplay, but not everyone can tell the difference between playing at 60fps and 120fps (this is all assuming you have vsync turned on) Also, if you want to be able to play at >60fps, it will demand more from your graphics card.

    Thanks for the info.

Any1 that has any experience with either of the 2 monitors?

As for the 27", I wouldn't recommend a screen bigger than 24" to be in such a low resolution. Not to mention being a TN-panel, it's going to create colour-distortion even while sitting right in front of it.

Of the two, I'd choose the 120Hz.

1080p would also require less power from your GPU compared to 1920x1200. Also, most people going from 16:10 to 16:9 hates it.

I'm having to weigh up the 16:10 to 16:9 switch at the moment. Have an old but still fairly awesome dell 2405fpw (IPS panel).
