I've read some info about the game today, and seriously I've been on the fence about the game, but after reading about how the game is flawed but still enjoyable (what I was worried about) I just may have to get it.

Yeah the weapon degrade is nuts. Hopefully random drops are random and weapon quality is random (I am seeing a lot of "worn" or "tired" quality items).
I am spec'ing into the healing tree. As of right now the other two trees seem ok but I don't know enough about "fury" to see it's usefulness and the weapon tree seems alright. Truthfully, medkits healing for more, more inventory slots, weapons repair/degrades being better, zombies ignoring you and more XP sounds right up my alley for an RPG so I'll be sticking with that.
Some elements I thought were awesome:
Opening locked doors with force is cool. It's tense and exciting if being chased too.
Shooting propane tanks being too close, knocks you on your ass and looks cool.
There are quite a few slow motion moments when attacking sometimes and that's nice. Apparently attacking specific body parts is accurate down to immobilize and whatnot.
I can't wait to get into this game more but it's a pretty solid 8 for me as well right now after an hour in.

From what I've seen on streams, it looks incredibly boring. Items are pretty damn standard and boring, storyline is repetitive, one guy I was watching spent an hour just slicing up zombies and ended up completing 10% of the game without really realising. On top of that it's bugged to hell. Press Y and you can fly around, really?
It did look pretty impressive but I don't think anything will ever really top Dead Rising. The talent tree and leveling system is a nice feature I guess but when combat is so boring it doesn't really cut it. I was going to buy this but streams tonight changed my mind.
Wow this has to be the most unique review I've heard so far. Only one I've seen who said the weapons were standard and storyline was repetitive, yet somehow praises Dead Rising (which isn't a horrible game but come on). I will agree on the buggy part though, I hope they fix some of the stuff I've heard about or I may skip as well.
Played some last night got up to the lighthouse. Animations are still pretty bad but i can tolerate that, i wish quest tracking was better and could track more then 1, played with 2 friends last night and game doesnt seem very challenging(hardest part is not breaking all your weapons), and why is noclip automatically bound to y?
Yeah not a huge fan of noclip being in the game but I guess that's basically like fallout ~ commands... just don't use them, sort of thing.
I've begun to realize the difficulty isn't that hard yet. Big dudes are slow and throwing heavy weapons at their legs breaks them and allows you to gang stomp them afterwards. Fast dudes go down on the floor with one kick. Right about now, after playing for 2 or so hours, kick is just fucking beyond OP.
I have yet to run MP yet, I'm waiting for the wife, so I'll see how that plays out tonight.
The fear factor has kind of worn a tad. There are still jump scares and whatnot, but after becoming comfortable with combat you are a lot less worried about zombies and more so concerned about the condition your weapon is in.
At first i was all scared of zombies and if i ever heard there sounds id start crouch walking to try and avoid them but now playing a little i just run up and slice there head off, and yes kick is op if a zombie is ever on the ground i just kick them to death(which is a very brutal way to die lol) to save weapon durability
Agree 100%. I spend more time running to repair benches to save my upgraded weapons than I do fighting zombies. I like the game, though. It is pretty buggy and for some reason my graphics cards run stupid hot with this game. I have 2 GTX580s and they're running at 80C which is crazy since other games like Crysis 2 and the Witcher 2 run steady at 60C.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. I run 2 570s and they both are spun way up. On top of that, I get stupid stuttering sometimes, which is hilarious because I can run those same two games you mentioned at max settings with zero issues and 70+ fps.
There is definitely some patching that needs to occur. From both Nvidia and Dead Island people.
Ok what the heck, i come home launch the game and my save progress got reset... i still have my levels and weapons but im back at the hotel. This is unacceptable and needs to be fixed. Also apparently i no longer have the ripper dlc anymore.
Just want to say that Noclip is now disabled but MASSIVE stuttering/lock ups in FPS is now happening rendering the game unplayable for me right now, which sucks but I'm sure it'll get fixed. Apparently, the steam version of the game that was released is some sort of unfinished Xbox version. An update is supposed to be soon.
Wow, glad i chose to order space marine over this judging by what people are saying.
Yeah.. game is completely unplayable at the moment. The stuttering issues are just ... wow.
Something must have changed. My wife got home, launched the game and had no issues. I joined her game and have had zero issues for the last hour.
Either way, I expect PC releases to be buggy sometimes and don't have high expectations for the first few days. Sad, I know.
I heard some guy on stream released the wrong version of it. They've already patched it though. So try it again.
Noticed that. Thought it was cool. Where is the broken window and the dead zombies? /sadface /unimmersed
On a lighter note, I messed around with the .scr file (settings) and got this baby pumping with max settings and it looks NICE. So much better than earlier with zero FPS stuttering.
On a darker note, multiplayer is down and my wife lost all her quests and is at chapter one at level 8 with all her weapons from before... Hopefully she can synch up with me after they fix MP grouping.
Buggy release is buggy. Isn't the first game, won't be the last.
This game is worth every penny I'd give it a 10/10, but I'm not IGN.
