Seriously, why are mods removing this from general discussion? This accident is far greater than to be considered Sports section only.

Sadly, it is not even russian planes. It is soviet. Fucking 50+ years old rusty flying garbage painted to look new and shiny. Russian companies also buy cheap 30+ years old Boeings and use them for internal flights.

Quite a few former NHL players as well that were on that plane. Very sad. This is awful and really has been the worst summer for hockey that I can remember.

"The aircraft, a Yakovlev Yak-42D, construction number 4520421301017, was first flown by Tatarstan Airlines in 1993, and was later sold to charter airline Yak-Service, who was the operator of the plane when it crashed. The aircraft, whilst being operated by Tatarstan Airlines, had been banned from making flights to the European Community in 2009, following airworthiness and air safety concerns."

Already posted in the NHL off season thread, but it is something that can't be said enough. RIP to every hockey player who has passed away too soon this past few months.

Hockey tragedy claims 43, including some NHL stars. RIP to all of them.

A plane crash in Russia killed an entire KHL hockey team, including a number of former and current NHL players such as Pavol Demitra and Ruslan Salei.

Full article can be found at: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=5...id=DL|NHL|home

Condolences to the families and RIP to the players, some of whom I grew up watching and enjoyed watching even as recently as last year.
