Playing Fire Red but I really need some more Pokemon for my team. Currently I have a Blastoise, Raichu and Primeape, all pushing lvl 50.

I really need a fire type, any suggestions? I do have a Growlithe but it's level 15 and my desire to level it.......meeeeeh.

Other than the Charizard, Ninetales and Arcanine lines, there's only like 4 other evolutionary lines for Fire types. Rapidash, Magmar, erm. Yeah.

I'd personally go for Ninetales, one of my favourite fire types <3

You have to consider, the professors send out 10 year olds to complete the Pokedex.

One thing that has always pissed me off in Pokemon games is the fact that you need to trade some pokemon to make then evolve, it's completely nonsensical imo.

Butterfree has sleep powder and quiver dance though (not in firered so I wouldn't use a butterfree there). Magmar move pool is shit for firered and lacks evolite to cover it's low defense. The best you can make out of it is a substitute and cover the grounds with hidden power and fire blast.

Hate to be that guy, but you can't get Vulpix or Magmar in FireRed.

FireRed is still Gen 3, which means the physical/special movesplit hasn't arrived. All Fire attacks are considered Special Attack moves and Magmar has the highest Special Attack stat of the three.
