New Computer, need a WiFi adapter, suggestions!?

People are telling me to get these PCI X adapters for Wifi. Others are talking about these usb kinds.

I'd like the best one for gaming, suggestions? (Pref one I can buy from retail like Bestbuy.)

Anything under 100$ is in my budget.

Typically the USB are a lot simpler to set up, but have slower speeds/worse reception. Technically for gaming a wired connection is 'best', but all options are pretty much similar

So if I wanna min/max I should get a PCI X or whatever adapter? I mean Wired connection by far is not an option. Could you possibly suggest one?

If your computer has PCI-X, I suggest getting a new computer first.

Wireless is going to add at least 100ms to your ping.

I'm playing with a garbage old built in wireless thing I screwed in. And I get 60ms on my realm.
    The PC I'm getting is a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229253
Just curious should I get a USB or one of those wireless adapters that I screw in. And which one would be suite me for a budget of 100$?

Could you possibly be somewhat more specific? Maybe an example of something you think I should get?

Reviews beg to differ, and its already being shipped and I don't plan on returning it.
(Have you seen the difference between a 6770 and a GTX 560?)
So...you wouldn't happen to have any suggestions for my WiFI adapter situation would you?

    Quite right.

LOL no. Just, no. Any decent wireless NIC paired with any half-way decent wireless access point will give you very little difference in latency. The only way you'll see "at least 100ms more" on your latency is if you use cheap equipment, or your signal has to go through multiple obstacles, including but not limited to microwaves, walls, refrigerators, etc. If you can find a wireless NIC that operates on the 5GHz band along with a Wireless-N access point that offers dual band support (2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, doesn't have to be in tandem) you'll be in wireless heaven, enjoying speeds and latency normally associated with point to point connections. Unless, of course, the aforementioned happens and your signal has to travel through a bunch of crap.

That said, something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320048 would be good. It's strictly 2.4GHz, but it's a solid wireless NIC and will pick up a signal from across the street and six houses down.

The GTX560 is actually pretty bad. 6870 > GTX560. However, it's not the video card he's referring to. He's referring to the CPU, which is vastly, by leaps, bounds, tall buildings and speeding bullets superior to the one you bought. Even with the weaker 6770 video card, you will see much better performance with the Intel Core i5 2500K than with the AMD Phenom II X4 965. Period.

Edit: Upon reading the reviews for the Intel box, I can immediately tell you that the fault lies with the memory. Tell them to put better memory modules in it and you got yourself a cheap bangin' system.

    The difference between a 965 and a 2500k is a lot bigger than a 6770 to a 560(non-TI).

Especially when you consider that most people replace video cards far more often than they do motherboard+cpus.

But anyways, the best stuff you'll want is going to be an internal, wireless-N adapter, will cut down on interference as much as possible.

As said before, I purchased the other one, reviews looked bad and I'm not a fan of getting a freezing computer at all, especially when its fresh. Regardless would you be able to suggest something better than that wireless card. I have a budget and anything up to 100$ USD is fine.

I picked up http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833166051 and at the time http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833998060 came free with it. Both are working well. Wireless will not add 100ms to your ping, maybe a few ms.

Any specific wireless-N adapters that come to mind? Perhaps a model or a preferred company?

wireless cards aren't exactly an expensive component, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between what is available, and it offers 300Mbps transfer which is solid for wireless.

A good NIC. However, I have to ask, what's wrong with the Asus NIC? Dwelling on the bad reviews drowns out an excellent product. Also, just because it's more expensive and has a gillion antennas doesn't make it better (no offense, chaud, my friend uses that NIC and it's pretty darn good)

Also, as far as I know, only USB adapters offer compliance with the 5GHz band... which makes me sad

Thanks for all the help, I've decided to grab the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320048
Also I appreciate the advice in regards the CPU and what not, truly a great and honest community!
Take care I'm off the bed!

Edit: Not much of a tech wazzy, but I've made dumb purchases before...

    The http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229253 (computer)
Will be able to be compatible with the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320048 (Wireless-N)

Sorry for asking a dumb question, but just gotta double check!

Doubtful. The GPU is covering the x1 slot, all the is left are the two PCI slots. According to the reviews it tops out at 8GB RAM as well, must be a cheap mobo.

e: Yeah, as far as I can tell http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131669 is the mobo.

    no and hell no

    - DO - NOT - BUY - THIS -

After two weeks of bashing my head into a wall I finally got it over 54mbps connectivity but never got it to n speeds. Even with an external antenna it gets 2-3 bars for signal strenght in win7 and my other comp which is right next to it gets full bars. Also to attach it to the case without pulling it out of the PCI-e slot I had to bend the bracket. Asus latest drivers are garbage no better than the generic drivers windows 7 will throw at it.

i've been running wireless on a netgear wna3100 n300 usb dongle, cost me 30 quid at argos, i run as low as 44ms, full 5 bars signal strength in windows, i get full torrent download speeds where applicable (nearly 800KB/s), and my router isn't even in the same room

can't say i've ever ever had an issue with a wireless dongle, their speeds, ease of use and price are all fantastic

So from what I hear...the ones you guys suggest won't work as the gpu takes the only PCI X slot...any suggestions what to get or should i just get a USB one since none of these are compatible with my mobo?
