It makes me laugh that people are saying "I will make enough to pay for WOW or some other subscription". Why not do an hour or 2 overtime in a real job rather than grind D3 for 50 cents an hour?

The thing is you'll need an income of 2k/month the pay the rent, food .... while a chinese farmer wil need 200/month, this is a good way to learn the principle of globalization though ....

I can forsee a delocalisation of your business or bankruptcy ... no really forget about it

Not everyone gets paid for overtime, nor has OT hours available even if they got paid for it.

I'm guessing the people thinking they can make make money for it are younger and unemployed/underemployed.

The key thing though is that they don't see it so much as work, but as playing a game and making money for it.

If they can still find enjoyment after grinding the same boss 200+ hours, good for them. I would be bored mad after just 2.

People go to casinos and sit in front of the same slot machines for hours and hours. Sitting there, putting money into the machine, pulling a lever, and watching the results surely must be dull...except that the possibility of a desired reward keeps people coming back for more.

Losing more money than they could realistically expect to win, sounds a lot like D3. The people that make good money from this will be the lucky ones, most people will make pennies after Blizzard and paypal take their cut.

I think that the RMAH will be extremely unstable during the start of Diablo 3. I do believe it will be similar to wow, that in time, the prices will even themselves out in a competitive market.

But there is something crucial people are missing here. What about NERFS. Lets say today you can sell a Vampires Gaze for 50 bucks on the AH because its so damn epic, well what happens when Blizzard nerfs VGaze because its so damn powerful? Your out of 50 bucks. Its going to be hard to justify buying an item for over 10 bucks when there is no guarantee that it will be worth more than a few cents in a couple of patches.

The RMAH is not going to be a job. If you think it is, I dont know what to tell you. The average player will be lucky to scrape together 15 bucks a month to pay for a WoW sub, if they are LUCKY. I think within 1 year of Diablo3's release, thousands, if not most, items will be in the 50 cents to 2 dollar range. Disposable income in these hard times is not that high for most people.

TLDR : Do not quit your day job.

Just have to add, the AH in Diablo will be nothing like the AH in WoW. The reason being; it will be massive. Imagine how the WoW auction house would be if the all the auctions in both factions of all servers in each continent ended up in the same auction house.

Well what i mean is that on day one, a normal mode set item helm may cost 10 bucks, but in 1 year, the set will be deemed worthless and the helm will be on average 50 cents. Sort of the way elemental reagents are on the WoW AH. When an XPac releases, volitile earth costed about 100g, now its down to 9g. And the price is pretty stable on ALL servers across ALL realms.

    *EDIT*
I do agree, there will be some people who can turn this into a living, but there will be a team of them doing it and they will probly be located in China. just say`n.

I will bold this statement so hopefully you read and it and sticks.
YOU WILL NOT MAKE ENOUGH REAL LIFE MONEY TO COMPENSATE BY NOT HAVING A REAL JOB.
THE REAL LIFE AH WILL BE MOSTLY RUN BY CHINESE GOLD FARMING COMPANIES

Thats true, and thats exactly why I dont believe that the average joe will be able to make a living playing diablo 3.

And this is the post to end the thread. This is exactly how the AH will be ran.

Remember you ave to be lucky to find items worth selling. And unless your a team of guys hammering away at the same mobs for weeks/months on end, you wont have an abundance of items to sell. You might get lucky if you get one a month to sell, and being somone who played diablo 2 for many years, one a month might be a strech.
