It's been live for a while, atleast the note next to the WoW login screen has said stuff about "bla bla be careful not to bla bla, check your account for the real invite", and lots of people have been streaming videos.

It's only been live since this morning, they were warning people to be wary of phishing attempts because there are many that go out faking beta invites to snare those who aren't aware that it wasn't live yet. Diablo 3 *public* beta invites went out today, press invites went out a couple weeks ago.
