    Alienware M14x

I'm looking for a high performance laptop which I can also take to Uni and back, i'm willing to short on the portability slightly for performance which is why i've gone for the Alienware M14x; is there anything more portable out there though which would still run WoW on high/ultra?

Alienware is way way overpriced. You can get same performance for 30% cheaper with any other brands.

What's your budget? People could use it to throw some suggestions.

Budget or GTFO... Seriously though we need a budget and to know what the use of the laptop will be. As in what courses you are taking, games you plan and plan to play, what porn you like, etc.

Go for an Asus, the G53/G73 series kicks 5 kinds of ass. I will admit that they are a bit ugly though

A 14-inch Laptop is a lot smaller than most people seem to think. In my opinion only 17" inch Laptops have slightly restricted mobility.

15,6" is a sweet spot if you ask me and a perfect balance between mobility and screen size. I actually find it quite hard to browse or read anything on a smaller screen than that.

And there are a vast number of 15" Laptops out there. Granted, few will offer gaming capabilities but those who do will do so for much less than Alienware.

I just browsed around newegg a little and came across http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230076

But there are dozens of other models to check out too. I'm sure at least one of them will float your boat.

Alienware is a terrible product at a terrible price. Other laptops (or custom) could be cheaper up to 50%.
Most universities have reductions and special deals for students, look into it.

Thanks for the info, I caught wind before that Alienware is often overpriced but it also seemed like a safe bet; i'll do a bit more digging.

I'd say Dell is one of the finer 'ready made' systems. Not too much of a hassle, good service and warranty, good price. Then again, I don't follow the laptop brands that much so it's possible that there's better out there.

    Alienware = Dell's gaming lineup.

Your point being? Audi is the owner of the Ferrari brand. Yet I doubt you'll go get your Ferrari repaired at your local Audi garage.
Alienware has its own services and its own accounting etc., independant of Dell.

Dell is the parent of Alienware. I assume you are different from your parents in many ways ?

His point is that they ARE Dells, just with a pretty case and alienware logo on them.

Dell is not a bad computer, and their customer service is pretty good.

Problem is just that the computers they are selling are very low spec, and getting mandatory upgrades are way overpriced. Just like Apple does. 2GB of RAM is a pathetic joke for a computer today, but still Alienware M11x comes with one. To get 4GB costs five times more than the memory from Newegg, and raises the price of the computer significantly over competitors.

Yet are not handled by the same department as the actual Dells (from what I know). You did forget the steep price increase.

I was shopping around for an alienware recently. I bought the mx18 and then returned it and instead built my own desktop and said screw the idea of a laptop. With that said though, this statement seems very wrong. You do pay a bit more for alienware but it's not to bad. On top of that you get a very cool style along with the light up keyboard, etc etc.

Desktop prices might be a bit different, but alienware laptops were competivly priced for what you got in the deal.

Not even close. M17x with same hardware as Asus G73 costs about 30-40% more.
