How much gold do you have?

Currently I've got approximately 35,000g in "cash" and another ~700,000g in various materials and faction specific items. (Horde items to be more accurate, I play alliance.)

I would imagine the average person has around 50-100k spread around all chars.

The gold cap is 999999g 99s 99c per character, and same goes for the guild banks so in theory its possible to have just short of 20m on one account. Then again the old guild banks had a bigger cap and there are people with several million stored in a guild bank.

if I combine all the gold scattered on all my toons, I would guess around 300k. I got lucky this last tier with many BoE wins in alt raids, which sold for a nice amount. I don't farm, I don't work the AH at all, so this is most likely a low number.

About 250k. Kind of stopped farming gold but since they seem to be rushing this expansion I am going to get back on it so I can buy anything and everything I want for next one

Around 30k at the moment. However, I've spent easily 1 million+ in the last 4 months. Money in - Money out. Nothing in this game requires more than a few thousand liquidty, so, when something pops up on AH that iI want, I buy it. Most recently Spectral Tiger mount.

He tells me that he have an average of 7.500 Auctions running at any time.

Another experiment he did was to start a level 1 Char on a random realm. (We actually rolled dice to wee where)
After a month he had 200.000. after a 1 month and 14 days he had capped that char.

Dunno where you got 2 million from, before 4.0.1 the cap was 214748 Gold, 36 Silver, 47 Copper, due to our money being stored as a 32-bit integer on Blizzards servers. This was changed with 4.0.1, which increased the gold cap to 999999 Gold, 99 Silver, 99 Copper.

On topic, I reached the old gold cap in WotLK. I never bothered to reach the new one, because I simply have no use of that much money. Since I reached the old gold cap(just around when Ulduar was released), I haven't really bothered to earn a single Copper. Only thing I spend money on is mats, I don't buy BoEs because I want to feel I've geared up my characters by my own hand. I'm still surfing around 150k, so yeah, money is pretty useless nowadays:P

I'm not very creative when it comes to money making. In tbc i spammed the ah looking for primals to transmute into mights, then sold for like 10g profit. Peaked at 4k. In wrath i got a friend to make a dm card, turned out to be a nobles and the only nobles that wasn't on the ah. So i spammed the card market while having 2x titansteel cd's and peaked at 25k. Cata launch i spammed the card market, and kept truegold up (x1 only) and peaked at 45k. Then firelands was released...

280k.

Because 21k isn't all that much any more, a lot of BoE's and mounts sell for a lot more than that, which should give you some indication.
