    Are new 360s quality better?

I am looking to by a 360 so we have more games my wife and I can play coop offline. For whatever reason the 360 has a lot of them that look fun. We just don't want something that is going to break. From what I have seen they don't break as much anymore but I just wanted to be sure.

Our other option is to pick up a second ps3 and play games with online coop but we liked the idea of having all three systems better... providing the 360 isn't going to die on us.

I hear the new slim 360s don't get the red ring like the old one did.
That's just what I heard from a friend though.

From what it seems the xbox 360 slims have better cooling then the older models, so yeah I would go for buying that, the older model had like a 60%+ fail rate <_<. But this one I have heard nothing bad about yet, had it for a year still works fine. go for it.

I've had mine for 2 years, no red ring. It's not a slim one either. Failures are not nearly as common now as some people assume.

I haven't gotten a RRoD on my 360, but my friend has had 3 do it. I bought mine last year, and he got all of his pre-2010. Don't know if that helps at all or not.

I've had my ps3 for almost 4 years straight now. just a freeze every few weeks, and changed out the harddrive a few months back (had a 60gb so it filled up once I got more games for it)

New 360s have a very low failure rate.

New slims are very awesome, no red ring so no overheating and built in wifi is awesome.

We've had ours for several years now. I think the red ring issue was solved relatively early on - they got a ton of bad press with their first issuing, but the problem was solved not too long after. Once they got things squared away, there was no press. Not nearly so much fanfare when things went smoothly, as they ought. Don't need the new slim version, I think anything made after the first year or two should work fine. (could be wrong on the time frame, but really, they're fine now or I'd hope they would simply no longer be on the market at all)

My 2 year old 360 still works fine, but for the love of god, buy wired controllers.

The new 360 Slims have a very low failure rate. I've only seen one red ring in the 15+ months they've been out, and I work at GS. They run cooler, and the fan is A LOT quieter. The built in WiFi is nice too.

Like others have said all the Xbox Slim does is increase cooling of the GPU and CPU. The internals (aside from maybe a different MB manufacturer) are the same. So you won't see any difference in quality. The Xbox Slim does handle 7.1 surround sound, as the Xbox "Core" only handles 5.1, but to most people doesn't matter all too much. I would go for the Slim just for the better cooling, most of the Core Xbox's don't get the RRoD anymore anyway, but it's still nice to have a fail-safe.

They fixed the main red ring issue even before the slim. Anything new should be pretty good for you, other than a few smaller "known" issues (they sometimes tend to scratch discs when they're vertical - especially since it's easier to bump, they cool slightly worse horizontal (especially on a tight shelf or in a stack), etc) BUT most of those have also gotten less frequent, and many are age/questionable use related.

A new 360 is just as safe as any system - some quirks, sometimes you get lemons, but nothing as over-reachingly bad as the red ring debacle.
