Anybody noticed the bait and switch with LFR done by Blizzard?

I don't know how many remember, but in one of the videos that were posted on this website, blizzard developers at a meeting with a german website had a video showing LFR in early development. It clearly had firelands in the background as one of the possibilities. Fast forward to present day and LFR is for Dragon Soul only. It has to be since new dungeons will drop 378 same as FL normal and if you make LFR it has to be a step below normal but that would make it below new dungeons and nobody would ever raid for a gear that is lower quality than can be had from dungeons.

Maybe blizzard realized what a disaster it would be to implement LFR with FL and decided to construct a raid from the beginning with LFR in mind.

perhaps the new raids didnt exist yet?
so they could only 'test' it with firelands, but did not want to tune it?

    How would you undertune Firelands?

    There is so much coordination.

Put "baby bumpers" around the Lord Ryolith Island so he never goes into the lava?

If you look at every boss in Firelands, and imagined them in "baby bumper LFR pugs" they would have to remove almost 90% of the bosses abilities.

I think you may be using the phrase 'bait and switch' wrong.

    That is an excellent idea.

    This, sadly. Could you imagine?

Shannox: Rageface has been sent to obedience school until he learns not to bite people. Riplimb and Shannox no longer apply Jagged Tear. Shannox, being a Huntard, has forgotten he can use traps (obviously he got bored and eBayed his account, and New Shannox doesn't know how to play).
Beth'tilac: Beth'tilac went to an all-you-can-eat buffet before the fight, and sent her spiderlings to summer camp. She no longer Frenzies without the kids to bother her.
Alysrazor: No firebird hatchlings will spawn. No lava worms will spawn. Alysrazor will no longer cast Fire Tornado.
Rhyolith: Lord Rhyolith broke his legs in a surfing accident and will immediately start in Phase 2. He no longer deals fire damage in this form.
Baleroc: Baleroc has forgotten how to use Decimation blade and will no longer cast Blaze of Glory or Shard of Torment.
Majordomo Staghelm: Staghelm decided he hates cats (what a monster!) and loves scorpions. He will stay in Fire Scorpion form and does not gain Adrenaline stacks.
Ragnaros: Ragnaros doesn't want to break Sulfuras and will no longer do Sulfuras Smash. Only two elementals will spawn during P1 and P2 transition effects. Only one (big elemental in P2 transition) will spawn. Ragnaros no longer uses Engulfing Flames or Living Meteor.

    I highlighted the important word. It means they hadn't made a final decision. We can assume plenty of things about those statements. Such as;
LFR was originally intended to be released before 4.3 as an alternative to the hotfix nerfs we eventually saw.
Maybe the idea was to apply it to FL and not DS when 4.3 was released so it worked as a means of getting into DS rather than a means to get through it.
Maybe the first discussions of LFR never had "easy mode" involved, as in, it was originally going to be used as a means of pugging Normal and Heroic.

Either one, the answer is, development is fluid. Nothing is set in stone, even after it implimented. So announcements that are made long before anyone outside of Blizzard has seen it work should take what is said with a laaaarge pinch of salt.

Hilarious Win. Sadly, I can easily see this happening.

Haha, if this sort of thing happened I might actually see Firelands.

I'd assume it's cause they'd not released any info about 4.3 at that point, so they showed it with the current content rather than spoil anything on 4.3 due to the fact it would be very likely to change before they wanted to reveal it.

You think you know what the term "bait and switch" means, but do you know what the term "proof of concept" means? Probably not. Those previews weren't official previews to the general public or else they would have had those same screenshots on the official WoW website by now.

You realize that this has been the case since day one right? If you've ever worked on any sort of production, wether its a movie production, play production, food production, car production or software production, it is always fluid. Things happen daily that makes you rethink what you're going to do next week.

Welcome to real life; glad you finally joined us.

There has been a clear progression for the worse in terms of what the system was going to be. When it was announced it was "just like dungeon finder" except for raids. Being just like dungeon finder implies you get the same bosses that drop the same loot and have as much health and hit as much as if you did it with your guild group. Difference between LFD and doing it with your guildies is luck of the draw %5-15% and possible CTA. You get locked but if you queue up randomly you can get the same dungeon over and over again.

At some point it turned into "slightly inferior" versions of raids that also dropped set pieces of inferior quality (kinda like tier 10 with 251-264-277). Now it is slightly inferior dragon soul only, you get 1 shot at loot per week. Initially people were salivating at possibilities when it was announced(even doing old raids with pugs) but now it is rapidly turning into a pointless exercise.

It is obvious why it happened that way, blizzard realized raids are simply not capable of being "like dungeon finder" and had to design a raid from the ground up with a "kiddie" version in mind. Furthermore, deadlines for 4.3 are pressing and wrapping up 4th quarter and the year on a good note is very important. Since SWTOR comes out 12.20 I think 4.3 could be dropped on like 12.18 or so.
