I usually name them to make people on vent rage and say it wrong.
Karedkiaoder on warhammer for one.
Iosriskn <---- that was a fun one!

Im not good with names, i always think for hours and still regret my choice later.
With names such as "Hoegrinder", "Bodenstyle" and "Derpghoul", i think i'd best not reveal the thought process going through my mind when it's time to name a new char :/

My names usually come to me pretty quickly; when I'm on that character creating screen it always just kind of jumps into my head. A lot of people spend a good half hour thinking about this though :P
I try to name mine after the people from the movie Nacho Libre if it's not taken already.
I usually try to relate something to the character. For example, about 3 weeks ago I started off fresh and made a new Draenei (male) and decided to pick some sort of name from a deep sea animal's latin name (a lot of the Draenei, and outland in general have that deep sea science-fictioney feel to me). At first I went through nudibranch names, deep-sea fish names, so on and so forth. I finally came across this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osedax
So, Osedax it was.
i try to pick as terrible names as possible.

I just mix random sounds together.
Or I look at the definitions of the classes on the creation screen and try putting the first half of a name together with the second half. Takes me a while usually :P
The name is the most important part of my character, it usually reflects someone I admire or a character that I have enjoyed from another game.
I've leveled characters and deleted them simply because I didn't like the name.
I usually come up with them myself or take help form diff books
Amirila - self
Printzess - variation form my lastname
Saefou - different spelling of Sappho
Fairth - from Brisingr
Loivissa - same as Fairth
Deyja - Brisingr and Icelandic (learned that later)
Cherokea - alternative from Cherokee
Kyralian - From Magician's Guild
Sachaka - From Magician's Guild
Nephilimia - alternative from Nephilim
I do the same.
At lvl 10, I start to suspect I've chosen the wrong name.
At lvl 15, I don't like the name, but think it might grow on me.
At lvl 20, I start to think of a new name.
At lvl 25, I create a new character with the name I started thinking of at lvl 20.
And thus the circle continues.
Usually I create variations of mythical names by adding, removing and switching out letters to get that right feel. Then I google the name to see if it means something it shouldn't. There you go.
I just play around with vowels and consonants
Conclusion is that 3-4 letter names are usually the best imo, short but catching.
Smash my keyboard and put the letters in a good sounding way...always done it this way.
i lagged, and i came up with Laggspike :3
Most of the times I spend ages before I can settle for a name I'm happy with. Usually I bend regular names or words to sound really nice and fit the character, other times the name just comes straight to describe the character's class or race (e.g. I choose Finnish nature words as a name for my druids and shamans).
My main character (hunter) was called Kavookavala, because of this song:
After 2 or so years I renamed it to Kavoo, since everyone called me that and no one ever (except for my fellow Brazillians) could type Kavookavala correct, kinda messed with invites/whispers, I have a shaman called Rainmaker
a goblin rogue called Blitzkrieg (fitting for a rogue imo), a troll girl warrior called Zufli (lorelol), paladin is called Agali (fitting for a tauren imo).
