    My Spriest dps low?

First off, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this.

This is my 361 spriest: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/characte.../Tyalia/simple

Currently on the boss dummies I average 13-14k, and it feels so much lower from what i remember doing on other, similarly geared characters. In BWD, i was averaging about 16k on chim/atra/omitron.

The priority I use is VT-DP-SWP-MB-SWD-MF

I use no nochanneling macros for all my spells to avoid clipping MF.

Any help I can get to improve what I feel is my very low dps is appreciated.

i would use this and see if it helps

VT-DP-SWP-MF( until orb pops ) then pop MB+ any CDs then MF referesh dots as needed and keep MB on cd

i think your dps loss is from dropping orbs and not having MB up 100% of the time

SWD should be used only when your low on MP and your fiend or disp. is on CD to help with mana or if the target is below 25% HP .

are you talking about my opener? because I do keep MB on cooldown so there should be no way i'm letting the orb buffs fall off

  4. #4
on an opener: pre pot > VP > SWP > DP > Shadow Fiend > Mind flay > Mind Blast

Mind blast on CD with at least 1 orb up and use SW: D at 25% on CD. With your gear on Baelroc you should be pushing 22k+ depending on the fight length and if you're tanking orbs in dispersion.

If you could make a combatlog (preferably in a raid but on a dummy would work too) that would be the most helpful. Most of the time low dps is due to not keeping up DoTs enough.

Also... you want to clip MF. If you clip MF with itself right before the last tick, that tick you clipped gets added to the next cast. Also every other spell we have is more important than MF so you want to cast those right after a tick happens on MF. More info on that here. Basically boils down to no channel macros for MF are a bad thing now.

I will remove my nochannel macros, and post up a WoL from our raid tommorow. Thanks for all the help so far, and I look forward to any help I can get once I have some usable data for you guys to look at.

Keep in mind that without DI, you actually reforged to your worst stat.
Hence the low DPS on a dummy.

That is fine, just don't make the mistake of passing up on haste gear... you do want to get more haste too

Opener of the rotation is ok up till MB, you run the risk there of using a MB at the start without a shadow orb proc, therefore lengthening your time you could be locked out from getting your mastery going. Personally I do this opener:
VT-DP-SWP-MFx5 ticks (to get 5 stacks of evangelism for the dot dmg) and if I get an orb by the 5th tick I immediately clip the MF and cast a MB. But if I don't have an orb by 5 I just keep casting MF until I get an orb (recast your dots if they are about to come off even if you don't get an orb).

You don't want to have no channel macros anymore because of the way dot clipping was changed in cata (TLDR when you recast a dot the game treats it as you just lengthened the duration of the dot, not applying a new one like WOTLK), this can be a DPS loss because of not being able to clip MF if your dots drop off mid MF cast.

Other than that the only other thing I see wrong with you talents is having no Veiled Shadows, the shortened Shadowfiend CD is a big boost to DPS, I'd remove the 2 from paralysis (no use in PvE) and put them into Veiled Shadows.

It's a dps loss to delay MB at the start (or any time during the rotation) unless you run some ridiculously high MST build.

OnT: WHY would you ignore one of the best talents but take an useless pvp one? That doesn't make sense..

A couple things I noticed. You have no tier set bonuses. Get rid of that ZG chest piece and use the T11 chest for the 2 piece with your legs. It's super easy to farm JP these days, so there is no reason you shouldn't have it. You have pretty much neglected running T11 raids. Getting a helm or shoulder token would be beneficial to you, because it would allow you to wear 2 piece T11 and 2 piece T12 at the same time. Al'akir is such a joke now that acid rain doesn't stack anymore. You should run that until you are downing more FL content, since he can drop both tokens. Pick up a Darkmoon card if at all possible. They're really cheap on my realm now, not sure about yours, and that would be a big increase for you. Your reforging seems a bit all over the place. You are reforging almost 300 haste off your gear, why? Also, you're missing a Chimera's eye. As others have said, there is really only one PvE shadow spec. Get rid of paralysis and psychic horror, these are PvP only talents. We can't check your DoT uptimes, but make sure you are using an addon to track them.

Thanks for alot of pointers! Here are some of my responses:

    1. Definately have neglected the 2pc t11 so im working on that now.

    2. Unfortunately cannot afford a DMC any time soon as most of my gold goes into raid mats and what not for my main.

    3. I reforged off haste because I was about 200-300 below the next plateau and about the same above the next lowest one. Until I get more haste gear to reach the ~2500 plateau I decided to reforge the excess to mastery.

    4. Completely missed the piece of gear being replaced that had my third Chim eye lol, thanks for spotting it.

    5. I moved 2 points out of paralysis and picked up Veiled shadows, but other than that there are no direct dps increase talents so I kept the point in horror for the utility.

    6. I currently use ForteXorcist to track my dots.

What most people do for the other two points is take that point out of horror and one out of Mental Agility and put them into Inner Sanctum. You surprisingly won't really notice the loss out of Mental Agility and the Inner Sanctum Talent helps a lot with all the aoe damage in raids.

Why would you ever cast mind blast when you don't even have dark evangelism, empowered shadows up nor having dots affected by the empowered shadows.
In my opinion you want to use archangel as fast as possible (to time with int procs, pre-pot and because of the low cd on the spell), and you want your mind flay and shadow word pain to not hit like a wet noodle by getting empowered shadows and dark evangelism. You will also in many cases refresh DP (because of movement, procs or external buffs), which will increase the benefit of doing this even more.
By saving your mind blast cd will also enable you to open with orbed mind blast when you pop dark archangel.
Doing this is also very beneficial on any encounters that involve multidotting, aoe or ramp up time.

We are not resto druids. Haste is still valued higher than mastery between plateaus. The one where that changed depending on DI is 30% haste. You should not be reforging out of haste below that plateau. Mastery only rises in value as you get more haste (faster MF and SW: P ticks, and less time casting things besides MF).

Figure out how to reforge. You've reforged out of every single stat. All that shows is that you have no idea what your stat values are. Until you hit 30% haste, it's
    Int > SP > Haste > Hit/Spirit > Mastery > Crit

You're over hit cap by 20, get rid of a blue gem or fix a reforge.

    More goddamn haste.

Not DPS related: If you're raiding, take 1 point from Mental Agility and get rid of Psychic Horror and put them into Inner Sanctum. You should know that if your main spec is healing.

Ok so i reforged back to haste after numerous people both here and in my guild telling me. I now sit at 2314 haste, 1743 hit.

I also downloaded Gnosis and Dottracker addons to help make sure I am clipping MF at the right time and keeping my dots up 24/7.

Since posting this article I have gone from 361 to 363, picked up a new MH weap and DMC (thanks guildies!) and picked up some new addons. I started at about 13k avg boss dummy dps and now sit at about 15k avg.

While I have improved I still feel like Im missing out on like 2-3k dummy dps that my gear level should be capable of. Maybe I just need more practice or maybe i need to finetune some things. Any further suggestions are welcome, and Thanks to everyone who helped me get this far!

Hard to help without logs but first up

No channel macro. Get rid of it. Absolutely a dps loss, use a bar addon to see tick marks instead so you can cast spells after a clip of mind flay.
Your gemming is wrong, always go for int bonuses. Your passing up on way to many great sockets (gloves belt and chest).

If you don't already have it, download Quartz casting bars. It shows your mind flay ticks. When clipping mind flay, do it after the second or third tick (if you clip on the first, you'll run into the GCD). Opener would be: SW:P, Sfiend, Mind Flay until an orb, Mind Blast, VT and DP, then Dark Arch, and mind flay/mind blast until you need to refresh something. Use Mind Blast on cooldown, but use it wisely. I wouldn't pop no shadow orb MB if Empowered Shadows is under 6.5 seconds from falling off without refreshing your dots. Spam DP if you have to move, it's your biggest instant cast damage burst. Use sfiend on cooldown, same with dark archangel. You shouldn't have mana issues, but if you do you can throw out a sw:d if you have a free second. Otherwise, save it for below 25%.
To get the absolute most out of what you can, I'd reroll goblin. The haste increase would help you reach your haste plats. But that is totally up to you. Do you get DI in raids? If not, I would aim for at least 2.1k haste if you can manage it in your gear. You're over hit cap, and that isn't really necessary. You'd rather be a point under than a point over, since any points over hit cap is completely useless. I use wowreforge.com to manage my reforging if I'm having trouble, it's pretty dandy. Work on replacing your blues and getting your 2sets asap, and you should see a dps increase.
