My Little Pony I dont get it?

After seeing all this crazyness over my little pony and how it has a massive fan base of males i decided to buck up the courage and watch a episode.
From what i watched i dont know if this is a massive troll. How do so many older males enjoy this show is there something im missing can someone explain this to me? Or is it there is just a lot of Furrys out there?
