I agree with the whole kill this and loot that, but this is Bioware! The quest dialogs are amazing! But yes, achievement is a cheap way to spending time, and tbh I dont have a good substitute for it, if its not creating other areas and/or npcs/companions.

My point was that several achievements are a sad excuse of trying to keep us interested between patches, and currently, if wow is anything to base shit on, its way to far between 7 boss raids <.<

I just hope they don't add stuff like "Kill the last boss in X" "Clear Flashpoint/Operation X", or we'll see the stupid "LINK ACHI OR GTFO" spam again.
I'd rather be judged on my gear than on my achievements or I'll never get anywhere.

I hope they do not put in achievements into the game. Or at least until later in the game. The last thing we need is "Link <achievement> or no invite!" I hope that they take it a different route, something like you are judged off of your gear/titles. And possibly a "Stats" tab, that has personal information. Possibly Pvp kills/ KB's. Quest completed. And flash points left/completed. (a light summary of what the tab could include)

I've always had the opinion of achievements are artificial content, while some have interest in earning all these achievements for "bragging rights", I've never had any interest in them and am personally highly against them. I feel that developer time should be used to make that content last longer (ie. harder bosses, more strict gear checks etc) over making people re-do the same content only differently (ie raid meta's) or making them go back and do content that is not relevant for the players level (loremaster etc). All they succeed in doing is creating the illusion of content...

Saying that I do agree with some of the achievements (mainly the feats of strength) such as the ones for the Olympic tabards or the Christmas gifts each year. I think they are brilliant as you don't have to do anything special, however you get that achievement or bragging rights to say I was there or I was playing at this time etc.

Do I think Bioware will introduce achievements? yes I think they will later down the line however I hope they implement them in a way that is not designed to make artificial content.

They've said that they're going to have achievements, now I can't remember if in that interview he said they were going to be in at launch or not. But one thing he made clear was that the only achievements that we're going to get are going to be epic ones, no "drink 8 drinks and fart in a casino" (that's his actual quote). Personally I like that, makes achievements somethings that's a little more challenging to achieve than fly across kalimdor with a /love macro.

The playerbase will ALWAYS find some method of quantifying another player's worth. Achievements (or the non-existence thereof) will not change that. If anything it made it better: with achievements you're asked for the achievement for clearing the raid, so you can join a PuG for that raid. Without achievements, you were asked for T6 gear so you could go to Karazhan. Yes, I'm serious.

How is that any different to Achievements? You're being judged either way in a quick and easy and potentially mistaken method. Whether it is through Achievements or through some other method is irrelevant.

Furthermore, I find a lot of people who don't like achievements quote a bad playerbase as their reasons for disliking achievements. It was just like all the Gearscore arguments back in WotLK. It wasn't Gearscore that was the problem: it was the playerbase for mis-using the tool provided. Same deal with achievements.

Artificial content? How do you define this? Content is content is content. If it gives players something to do, then it's worthwhile content. Whether it's worthwhile content 'to you' is irrelevant. The fact is, achievements are a cheap investment. You put in 5 minutes of work, and they keep players busy for 10 minutes. Or even longer. Some players love them and some hate them, but the fact is they're a highly effective means of adding in more content for a relatively cheap time investment. They make sound business sense.

I think it was said in one of the Eurogamer interviews, I just recall Stephen Reid being surprised about it since he wasn't informed about them being scheduled for launch.

I doubt the beginning system will be extensive, anyway. It'll probably be more basic, large goal, type of achievements so no one gets annoyed about the entire deal with no retro-active achievements if it had been implemented in the future.

I truly believe achievements are always a nice addition to any game but I don't believe they will be implemented on release date. But I can see it coming some patches after.
Achievements are very good to pass our time in game when we have nothing better to do.

Yeah. I hope they make mounts/pets/achievements account wide. I wanted to play other things but I didn't want to lose all of the stuff I put time into.
