Something a little different (omg rap!):
And probably the saddest song I've ever heard:
Another one..For anyone thats ever had a rough break up. Honestly Ryan Adams has some of the most emotion evoking music on the planet..If you havent already You should check him out.

Thinking about what it's an ode to, tugs my heart strings a bit.
What kind of sadness are you looking for?
Loneliness and monotony:
((4.5 average rating of over 2500 ratings on sputnikmusic for the Brand New album, so I highly suggest listening to the whole thing))
Life and Death:
It's a mashup of a classic and a modern "post-classical" song.
Probably the two best "sad songs" I know of.
Akira Yamaoka is so under-rated
Critically acclaimed the best band of my generation:
Well, since you mention sad OR sentimental songs, I got a few.
Firstly, two songs by the master of melancholy, Bob Carlisle: Christmas Shoes and Butterfly Kisses. I have to turn the radio to another station when I hear these come on, because I know if I pay attention, I'm gonna tear up.
Round Here by Counting Crows evokes some emotions deep in me, sometimes.
Oh, and Champagne High, by Sister Hazel.
btw, where do people normally go to link these videos? I feel left out. :P

There's many songs really, but here's some of my favorite ones.
Naruto Shippuden OST - Maisou (Burial)
Death note OST - Dirge
Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel OST - Trapped Thoughts
I usually hate Swedish songs, but this one is actually quite good.
Adam's song by blink 182
Most of Billy Talent's repertoir (it's like they wrote their songs about my life)
Don't look back in anger by Oasis
I'll cut the list there, but there's a lot more.
This song always brings me to tears, without fail. Also, Puff the Magic Dragon, the rumors about which has been denied so it really IS a song about a boy and a dragon.
