Bulldozer failed to beat out Intel.

I've been looking at the benchmarks released today and I'm kinda sad from a gaming perspective.

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd-fx...cessor-review/

It's good for content creation but drops behind considerably for gamers, still, I'll see how their hexacore turns out for gaming:/

Edit: Just to make a quick clarification. Even if AMD's new BIOs update improves performance they've still crippled themselves with a lot of the first day buyers. I've opted out of my own reservation just because I'd rather not invest money in a chip plagued with this many issues.

Here's to hoping Bulldozer V2 coming out in 2012 gets power and costs under control. That and software that can actually utilize more than one or two cores.

Now you know why I pick 550W+ PSUs!

Might be a reasonable upgrade for gamers who have the motherboard that can support it, depending on what games they play.

I'm going to wait on some more benchmarks - though rumors floating around are saying it does not stand up to Sandybridge.

holy mother! Seriously? They allowed that? O_o That's ridiculous.

I thought the most interesting thing about reading a bulldozer review was that they are adopting a yearly architecture update which I don't think they have done before. Other than that, I see little reason as a gamer to touch this. It did have some remarkable performance in other areas though.

I have a 750W PSU and that's just... what the shit? I've already decided to stick with my i5k and see what Sandy Bridge v2's look like. Also, your second image has an i7 2500k (lol), and the FX 8150 barely beats out either the i5k or the i7k. Curious to see how the Phenom II 1100T BE stacks up against it.
    Thanks Soko<3

That power consumption is absolutely ludicrous. I'd imagine that's going to generate some serious heat.

PS - they're showing a 3.65% increase going to bulldozer, which is more than within the 5% Margin of error assumed with benchmarking.

I'd call it a wash, and say it's equal to the i5.

    This sums up Bulldozer

    Please post more constructively. ~Uggor

I am dissapointed, that is for sure.

Still, it's an architecture that is built for the future. It really shines in all of the benchmarks that can effectively use 4+ cores.

Well I hoped AMD would present Intel with some serious competition.

I think they will, just not in the current games market. If you look at the benchmarks, the 8150 is getting scores extremely close to ( or better than ) the 2600k. Things like video encoding, and media editing are where bulldozer will do the best. Most current software is totally unable to use bulldozer to it's full potential.

Well all did, Deltrus. It's a sad day to gamers. AMD has failed to do anything but match Intel's established technology. Technology that will already see an improvement in Q1 2012.

Glad I went with Intel, glad I've continued to recommend it in light of BD coming out.

This is bad news. Now Intel will treat consumers like slaves.

Id have to say at the top CPU price it wouldnt be much faster than an i5 to begin with but these early prelim test's are just that early. We shall see over the week and really know how it is. Id say the lower end 8100 seems to be fairly good for being pretty damn cheap.

Btw, what the hell is the silver thing that comes with the CPU? Is that like a belt buckle or something? XD

@Uggor, PM me about the 2500K and how you like it! I'd like to hear about your escapades into Sandyclocking. :P

@gmike, now they will? I thought we were slaves like a decade ago... :P

even the 3 years old processor beats it in media encoding.
    there is more failure here:

You're using iTunes as a benchmark? Get real. It's a shitty platform and you know it.

The two benchmarks right below that one:

    still i7-2600K beats it so hard ... 15 seconds ahead .. lets count those .. 1 ... 2 ... 3 ...

a failure is a failure u can not deny it. AMD was boasting about this piece of failure for a long time and it can not even make a good competition against sandy bridge... and intel has plans of ivy bridge which i believe will put AMD in danger zone if they do not react to the market within 2012 Q2-Q3.

Stop trolling. Nobody expected Bulldozer to roll over Intel ( You were naive if you thought that would happen ). The processor is cheaper than the i7 by ~40$, and it performs almost on par? I'll take that. I can imagine a few years down the line when programs will actually be able to utilize more cores.

i did not expect it to beat intel sandy bridge .. but i expected some competition ... u do not call this a competition

would you honestly change your mobo for this AM3+ socket so you can buy this processor ? or would you stick to your current mobo and just buy ivy bridge in Q1 2012
