    [BIO] Charles Rotgaze

Name: Name: Charles Miles ( Life ) - Charles Rotgaze
Race: Born as human, raised as forsaken during the Third War .

    Age: 35

Character backstory:[Life]:Human: " A simple life. A life in which I always strived to become better.."

Charles was born in a sunny, warm spring day to Johnathan and Helen Miles, a couple of farmers in the countryside of Lordaeron. He grew up learning how to work the family's field, yet he wanted to be something more: Charles enjoyed going to the closest Church ( praying and astonished by how the priests could conjure the Light to heal the suffering) in Andorhal and as he grew up and his faith strengthened, he asked the local priests for teaching under the Light. A few years have passed as he struggled to find balance between studying the Virtues and helping his parents with the house, only to receive a slap from fate, when he discovered he could not use the Light. The priests offered him a place as a monk, someone who would assist them during prayers, but Charles had wanted to wield the Light, not be its "wine-bringing boy". Thus, saddened and disappointed by how The Light would not receive "such a dedicated" disciple, he returned to his farmer life.

One would hear rumors of demon-worshippers, rogue mages and mysterious diseases, but the common folk of Lordaeron dismissed most of these, and as Charles had never seen mages or demons, he couldn't care less about these rumors. He lived a simple , unimportant life, limited by his low-ranked position in society, yet he didn't quite hate this lifestyle as he couldn't see how he could escape his fate.. sure, he once dreamt of being a priest, a healer or something heroic, but atleast he had a warm bed at night and a loaf of bread with eggs in the morning.
This simple life ended however, when Arthas returned to Lordaeron: running rampant across the country, the scourge murdered his family as all they could defend with were a couple of knifes and pitchforks.

Character backstory: Forsaken: " After months of darkness and rage, struggling between eternal suffering and self consciousness I find myself...reborn.."

His simple life was now.. a little bit complicated. A mindless ghoul for quite some time, he was one of the Forsaken that broke free from the Lich King's domination. He thought of himself as an abomination and thought that he had no place in this world.. until he discovered that instead of the Light answering his prayers, it was the Shadow that now protected him. After a long period of training in which he began to learn how to control his new powers, he became a Dark Cleric for the Forsaken, not quite a prodigy, but with enough skill to protect himself and help push back the Scourge from Lordaeron.
During the Second Scourge invasion, he was sent amongst a battalion of Deathguards into the Plaguelands as a vanguard: a reckless move, as they were quickly defeated... and so, Charles fell once more, his powers unable to overcome his foes..

Character Backstory [Undeath] : " A so-called Dark Cleric...a follower of the shadow...hmph.. his petty magic could not halt the imminent. Sent to Acherus to serve as a lamb to the slaughter for the Death Knights "

It seemed that the story was not over for Charles.. he was raised at Acherus, with the single purpose of being sent as a lamb to the slaughter, pitted against potential Death Knights, and allowed only a chance for survival:fight.
Locked in the center of Acherus, he looked with fear at how the other prisoners were freed and slaughtered by the powerful Initiates. When his own supposed-executor unlocked his chains and allowed him to grab a sword, something inside Charles clicked: He had the desire to survive and kill his oponent, surely it couldn't be a coincidenced that he was allowed a chance to life yet again. He KNEW what he had to do instead of THINKING about it. As his oponent charged at him, Charles assaulted him with his Shadow powers, further transformed and empowered by his second undeath. Although a fine fighter, his oponent could barely scratch him a few times as he fell, consumed by the dark energies Charles was casting, unprepared and arogant, thinking Charles was harmless and his execution a formality.

Proving his worth, Charles was immediately freed from his chains and appointed to Instructor Razuvious, receiving the Lich King's gift as he became one of his Death Knights. Under the tutelage of the Instructor, Charles developed his shadow-aligned powers into something even more sinister: With intense training, he learned how to transform the shadow into plague-spreading diseases, now being able to assault his enemy's mind and body at the same time.
Charles mindlessly slaughtered peasant, soldier, mother and child alike, learning to master the unholy energies which were granted to him.
The Battle at Light's Hope Chapel changed his world yet again: he was locked in battle with a paladin, who managed to hold his ground until they found themselves as allies: Tirion's sacrifice, discovery of the Lich King's betreyal... it was like he was reborn a third time: his mind was now free.. he could now have more complex feelings than the need for blood .. but at first he wished these feelings would have never returned to him...

Character Appearance [ Life ]: "We are farmers... we care not for looking good when we work our field... yet, when you attend ceremonies, you should clean yourself and dress accordingly. "

    Human:
For a farmer's boy, he kept himself quite clean, especialy since he was a frequent visitor of the Church: he would wash himself and wear his good clothes when going to the Church, as he wanted to show the higher-class people that even a farmer can prove to be a polite, elegant person.
He was tall and had long, black hair and hazel eyes and developed a well-fit body from all the work at the farm.

Forsaken: " What was once a... some would say, pretty face... is now a decaying aberation... yet I do not mind... I serve a new cause... I am along brothers who look the same as me and accept me for what I truely am. "

For quite some time, he was only a mindless corpse: most of his bones were sitting unnaturaly, having been broken. His skin and hair lost their healthyness, his skin becoming a palid white. His eyes lost their hazel color and turned into unholy-glowing orbs, sunk deeply into his skull.
His body was now host to many scars and lacerations, three large claw marks encrusted onto his chest.

Character Appearance [Undeath] : " .... It could've been worse.."

Further transformed by his second undeath, his skin has decolored even more, beginning to develop a purpleish look. His eyes, already horrifying before, are now two blue glowing orbs, blazing with unholy energies while his hair has turned dark blue. Instead of the robes he wore in life, he now wields plate armour, trying to cover all of his body, as he somehow thinks the tight armour will keep his body from being torn apart.

Character Personality [Life] : " We're farmers, Charles... we HAVE to be humble and respect the nobles, or they can make our lives living hell. It is not the perfect life, but we make a decent, honest living. "

Human : Born as a farmer, Charles had to learn to endure insults and beatings: the noble boys would occasionaly make mean remarks at how he was "cursed" to forever be a farmer and remain their inferior, their object of laugh. This is one of the reasons Charles wanted to become a wielder of the Light, to show that even a farmer can overcome his pre-destined position...
In reality, he was never worth becoming a disciple of the Light: his wish to wield the Light was selfish... he wanted to show the world he was worth something and preoccupied with satisfying his needs, forgot about how the Light taught its disciples to help others.

Forsaken: " I am beginning to have feelings yet again... As I have recently gained self-control, the intensity of those feelings is faltering...but in time, I will be whole again"

for months, Charles was an empty husk, a mindless servant of the Scourge. After he regained self-conciousness, his memories began reappearing through flashbacks, until he was able to remember the most important aspects of his life.
Death made him appreciate what he had: although a mediocre shadow-conjurer, he embraced his new life, in which he was no longer a peasant.. some looked at him with respect, as the Forsaken praise the Shadow, and he was one of those who could conjure it, and that was enough for him, as even though he wasn't a genius, he felt unique and respected, that which he always strived for.
As a Forsaken, his insocial wall was partialy broken and he gained a sense of dark humour.. he was offered a new chance at life and thus tried to do as much as he could to enjoy it: he tried to help his brethren who couldn't accept undeath and remained loyal to the Banshee Queen until the very end.

Character Personality [Undeath] : "We are the Knights of the Ebon Blade. We fight for one purpose, and one purpose alone. Train, obey and be rewarded. Betray us, and be eliminated. And when the time is right, we shall have revenge. "

When he opened his eyes and saw the walls of Acherus, he was surprised that he lived once more. Surprise only turned to rage as he was forced to fight for his life.
Under the will of the Lich King, Charles felt nothing but hatred for the living and the wish for blood.

However, when the seemingly impenetrable veil which was placed around his former memories was broken, Charles was shocked: he couldn't believe he killed all these people as he remembered their cries for mercy, people who could very well be former residents of Lordaeron, or even worse, old acquaintances from back home.
He entered a deep depression and questioned his role in the progression of the World. In the end, he managed to overcome his grief, encouraged by the other Death Knights that his will was not his own, and thus he could not be held responsible for his actions. He decided that the best way to escape the painful memories was to join the Ebon Blade and thus exact revenge on the Betrayer Prince.

Where one would expect a raging sadist, having been raised in undeath a second time, Charles strikes as quite a humouristic, polite fellow: he chooses his words carefully, as he believes he should carefuly use his second undeath. Some may mock him for not being the ruthless abomination he looks like, but he sees it as a good thing, after all this regaining a little bit of his humanity as, if another Knight falls, he would quietly mourn the loss of his brother, because for him, the Ebon Blade is his new family. Having lived as a humble farmer, he has no problem helping others which need it. Wether this means loyally following orders or training others, Charles will obey, without raising any questions. More than anything, he is glad to be surrounded by brothers in suffering, whom he understands and who understand him: he is no longer that shy peasant who struggled to overcome his pre-destined condition. He has become proud of what he fights for and completely embraced this new, unholy life, seeing the Ebon Blade as the only brotherhood worth joining.

As he feels accepted, Charles is not ashamed of his appearance : even though in the past he wore light clothes, and robes as a forsaken, he now proudly wears his uniform, trying to maintain its good shape, fixing any cracks which may appear during battle and does not hide his unholy visage, unless ordered to. In battle, Charles prefers not rushing in by throwing his best moves on the first attack. As a former Dark cleric, a follower of the shadow, Charles prefers the "magic" part of being a Death Knight: he would rather fight his oponent from afar with powerful incantations and use his sword as a defensive tool to keep his oponent away while the merciless diseases consume his foes, but, if need be and the foe proving a challenge, he would simultaneously strike with both shadow-empowered runeblade slashes and unholy spells at the same time, as to weaken his oponent both from physicaly and psychicaly.

All in all, Charles enjoys his second undeath more than his human life, as now he is free of the bounds that kept imprisoned inside a reality in which he was only a farmer, always fighting to win the respect of others.

(( This is an app I posted for an elitist DK guild depicting the Ebon Blade force in Northrend. I have not received an answer yet as they took a break and would like to know your impression on this.

The main point about their app system is that they focus on personality instead of story. ))

A colorful character! Absolutely loved the background story, as much as the main 'hero' of it.
