Hello all! I've been looking for a good anime, and well, this looks like the right place to ask. =P
As you can tell from what I've seen, I don't watch much anime, but I absolutely loved Death Note, and to a lesser note, Bleach. When they show the good episodes, that is.

    - Anime I've already seen:
Death Note (my favorite anime so far)
Bleach (aside from the filler, ugg)
    Dragon Ball Z
    Naruto
Tiny, tiny bits of Full Metal Alchemist, didn't care for it. (again, it was like an episode or two, so I didn't give it much of a chance)

    - Favorite genres or genre you would like to get recommendations off:
I'm pretty much open to anything, but fighting anime can get really repetitive...

    - [optional] Genres you don't like:
As said earlier, open to whatever, so long as it's good. =P

Having said that, I'm interested in "Ghost in the Shell". I haven't investigated much, but based upon what Neichus posted on your second link ("It's a mixture of detective work, politics, and action."), it sounds kind of similar to Death Note? Any recommends would be much appreciated. ^^

as your open to anything, I would reccomend to check out anime on the previous recommendations.

    as for fighting specific:
not seen these one yet so i'm not able to say a personal meaning about these ones so gonna take them of other MAL posters so the credits go to them.
    Hajime no Ippo (+sequels): synopsis
The supporting characters are awesome. Takamura, Kimura and Aoki are all equally hilarious. Each has a distinct personality that make them all very lovable. They also support Ippo as he meets his trials of boxing and life.

Definitely give this series a try. You won't be disappointed with the 76 episodes. In fact, you'll probably end up reading the manga because you don't want it to stop! show less

    Rurouni Kenshin: synopsis ova, synopsis
There is no doubt in my mind that if you are looking for an anime with a little bit of everything and looking for an anime that involves mystic sword styles, amazing battles and an "oro-ing red-headed samurai," look no further. show less

    History's strongest disciple kenichi: synopsis
All in all, Kenichi is one of those rare anime shows out there that is able to blend in comedy with the overall serious plot extremely well. One of the few qualms that I did have with this show was that the ending occurred a little to quick and you'll also wish that they gave more information about the history of each of the masters, as they provide you with relatively very little on each one of them. In the end, once you watch the final episode of this anime, it will take you five seconds or so to wish that there would be a second season to it.

you've seen naruto and bleach, I would give Fairy tail a try and One piece also ( don't get scared of the 500+ episodes)
    one piece: synopsis
    fairy tail: synopsis

Thanks, Synaia! I'll definitely check those out! =)

In regards to Ghost in the Shell, is it anything like Death Note? I suppose I worded things badly on my original post. More than fighting, I like what Death Note was. Looking for something more like that, than anything else.

Ok so since you are open to anything here I go!

Code Geass- A young teenager names Lelouch is granted a special power that can help change the world. He uses said power to help make a world that is good enough for his sister. Has supernatural elements aswell as mechas. My favorite show of all time and is defiantly worth the watch. Full Synopsis http://myanimelist.net/anime/1575/Co...aku_no_Lelouch

Clannad- Story revolves around a young man named Tomoya who is in highschool. It is pretty much a love story that has arcs for different girls. It is followed up by Clannad: After Story one of the saddest shows of all time. I think everyone here who has seen it has cried. Full synopsis http://myanimelist.net/anime/2167/Clannad

Gunslinger Girls- Is about an agency that saves little girls on the brink of death to use them as assasins. The show is short only 13 episodes but its art is so beautifully done it is a much watch if you are interested in character relationships and some fighting. Full synopsis http://myanimelist.net/anime/134/Gunslinger_Girl

Angel Beats- Honestly its kind of hard to explain in a synopsis but trust me its good. It has fighting with humor and some music elements. The music in this is some of the best to any show I have seen and its not supposed to be centered around it. Full synopsis http://myanimelist.net/anime/6547/Angel_Beats!

I like how you are open up to all suggestions. I was at first aswell and was recommended Clannad. This show really got me into watching anime. After I saw it I have been nonstop watching it but only one show has been as good as it so far which is Code Geass. I hope these suggestions helped.

    Thanks guys! <3

Checking out Ghost in the Shell first, then Code Geass. ^^

Out of curiosity, where do you all watch your anime? I've just been watching what little is on Adult Swim, so...I haven't gotten much exposure. =( If this is against rules (advertising / whatever), please PM me.

One last thought: I hear Trigun / Cowboy Bebop are really good, what are y'alls ideas on them?

Looks like you're looking for your run of the mill shounen fighter.
From the top of my head, I'd recommend
    Ao no Exorcist - http://myanimelist.net/anime/9919/Ao_no_Exorcist
Hunter x Hunter - http://myanimelist.net/anime/136/Hunter_x_Hunter There's a version from 1999 and a remake being made now, both are fine, but the remake seems to have a much higher pace than the original
One Piece - http://myanimelist.net/anime/21/One_Piece I would highly recommend reading the manga of this rather than watching the anime, the anime is pretty abysmal and probably only survives because the manga is the most popular thing in Japan ever.
Tetsuwan Birdy Decode - http://myanimelist.net/anime/3974/Tetsuwan_Birdy_Decode This is the only one of my favorites that may qualify as something you're looking for. I don't see it mentioned a lot, but I certainly love it, especially the second season.

I would very much recommend One Piece. http://myanimelist.net/anime/21/One_PieceIt is very simmilar to Fairy Tail. Same mix of comedy and action. It does start out slow, but really picks up around episode 30. It is over 500 episodes now and still going so should keep you bust for awhile.
Yu Yu Hakusho http://myanimelist.net/anime/392/Yu_Yu_HakushoAnother fighting series. This one is a little more focused on the action and less on humor but is very good. It is completed with 112 episodes.
Claymore is a quite a bit different then the others on your list, but if you liked that you would probably like Berserkhttp://myanimelist.net/anime/33/Berserk Sadly, only one season was made while the manga is still ongoing but it is still worth watching. If you do enjoy it, I would recommend seeking out the manga as it is very very good. I did hear that they are making a new movie for Berserk and that if it does well, they might do a new series so keep an eye out for that sometime next year.

Ok Guys and Gals. Since I am about to finish up Steins Gate I would like someone to suggest something that is on my PTW list. I was thinking of watching all of the Macross series next but I am not 100% certain. In before Sorrior suggests FMP its not on my ptw list yet.

Out of the stuff on your list, either Bakemonogatari, Last Exile or Toradora. Last Exile for steampunk adventure, Toradora for a great romance series and Bakemonogatari is kinda hard to classify. It is a very good series though. A little bit mystery and a little bit romance.

Ok Laylie is in the mood for a very very very good harem... And when I mean good you know what I mean... Nudity, sex, love all the stops... It can be a hentai but if it is message me it since I don't want anyone getting in trouble because of it.. I would prefer it to be like 12 episodes long if possible since I just want a short one. Come on Synaia I know how twisted your mind is.

I has no twisted mind but not gonna link you hentai as of now, there's a bunch of good series that should do the job for now.

    school days:synopsis
Take School days with a grain of salt and you'll be rewarded with a story that offers a great deal of engaging drama and an epic ending that will leave you a lasting impression.

    Yosuga no sora: synopsis
his is an awesome series for those who can go into it with an open mind, and look at the good qualities. The soft-core porn is just a bonus XP
    and it has amazing art

    Kiss X Sis: synopsis (airing)
    synopsis (tv)
if you don't mind feeling a little horny after watching an episode, I definitely recommend this
the one with airing is still airing altho there comes an episode out every time there is a new manga released of it (1 a few months)
altho it's twice the same serie.

    B Gata H Kei synopsis
B Gata H Kei is an amazing watch if you just want to enjoy yourself and don't mind a little ecchi. If you're an ecchi-enthusiast like I am, I highly recommend this show, as it is probably the best, and seriously the classiest ecchi I've ever seen. I know classy ecchi sounds a little bit strange, but I promise you, this is not a Rosario + Vampire kind of ecchi with panty shots galore, but the fanservice is there where it's supposed to be, the comedy balances it out so it's not gratuitous.

If you love ecchi and comedy, you'll surely love B Gata H Kei~

and i'm serious about school days! anyways gonna go to bed after you posted a reply

Me again. This one is going to be a very hard recommendation. I need a show that would get my friend who is a girl into anime. She is willing to watch one and only one episode so I need something that has a WoW factor at episode one. She is not the brightest girl so something to challenging is a no no. I also don't think she would do well with fighting shows. Something that isn't too cute either. Synaia and Skizzit I challenge you meow!

    ---------- Post added 2011-10-28 at 02:16 PM ----------

It also has to be english dubbed I don't want to show her a sub for her first show. She hates reading...
