Need help remembering a game (15+ yrs old)

I was at my friends house about 15-20 years ago playing a game, and have been looking for that same game ever since. Here is what I know:
486/Pent I
5.25" and 3.5" copies in box
Turn based strategy shooter (not unlike Frozen Synapse)
Your team consisted of mercenaries that had different skills (like swimming) and weapon proficiencies (including explosives), There were a number of different dossiers that you could chose from (the mercenary selection was done as if you were looking at manila folders). I seem to remember Mercenary in the title (I could be wrong), but anytime I try to look it up there are newer games that gets in the way.


These are the games that commonly get in the way when I am trying to look for the game.

MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Mercs Inc
Mercenary by Novagen Software Ltd. in 1985
Mercenary III: The Dion Crisis

Any help you guys could give would be much appreciated, again it has been 15 years at least since I have laid eyes on the game so my memories are a little fuzzy. I was also playing Gemstone III (text MUD) at the time, I think that was around 94-95' or so.

Sounds like Jagged Alliance yes. Also JA2 has very active community still, even modding and patching it to this day.

Nice that you found it, I would suggest getting JA2 gold version though and then patching it with the 1.13 community patch.
