This happens to me often too, I'm TERRIBLE at cleaning out the inside of my case. I hope it works for ya

Dust out the case. Otherwise you could be hearing the hard drive, but more often than not its a noisy fan.

Yeah. A HDD would likely be intermittent sounding. Cleaned out neighbors case the other day. 1/2" Dust. Fans were trashed. :P
